Hey all, I have an idea for a new plug-in. A Virtual Tour plug-in to guide users across the pre-defined forum pages to know all its features. In other words, a virtual tour to educate new users about the forum/site. So you could customize the different steps, show them in the default containers/pop-ups and highlight certain elements on the selected page (according to the step description). Along with numbers/dots to show the progress of the tour and next/previous buttons. Also to enable HTML/plain-text editing for containers/steps. This would be a great plug-in! Thanks! PS: I found a plug-in for Oxwall which does this (just as a design example): www.oxwall.org/store/item/810

this just seems like something that would require flash. I will leave this open, but it seems really involved to pull this off in javascript.

Wormopolis - I'm not sure but I could see something similar maybe more to google doable. Where basically you get a modal box popping up with an arrow of some type pointing to a feature, the modal box telling what it does. So for an example: Ravens <---- Click this button to visit your pms (Got it! Move on!)type affair possibly with a key being used to store about if a person has had that tutorial part or not

I can see it being done...show up a few boxes with highlights and hide/show the boxes on click. I don't know javascript too well, although I'll try my best to help you guys out if you like. Sorta like a group made project maybe....

Nathan can you tell me if I'm right in this type mock up Stuff here Huge block of text here that's huge and represents the forum This is a title introducing the div This text explains things and would have an arrow pointing to the object it's explaining. At the bottom of this part should be a method for the user to acknowledge they understand it move on. The modal window (represented with This is a title introducing the div) should also have a x to allow someone to close it and an option not to recieve other tutorials and appear to cover all other sections other than what its explaining with a colour at something like 0.5 opacity Note not saying I can do it (I still haven't work out how to set keys) but more for any coders thinking of doing it

I have an idea for this but I may be way off target about what is being asked for. How about an example/description/image of what would appear on the Home page? That would maybe make it clearer what you are after.
EDIT: Just adding that there is already a help button that takes you to multiple pages explaining how things work.

loki Instead of creating a modal window, why not use the ones that all the proboards forums already have (I think they use the jquery dialogs) Example: Click the "Participated" button in the top right. (btw I'm not actually sure whether or not plug-ins have access to these, but I have seen plug-ins such as Rankwatch which do this) pebble This is meant to make it more interactive, easier and more welcoming to the user. (also gives a lot more "professional" look to the forum)
