Add a fake notification to the top of all users' notifications page 

to easily grab their attention!

The Announcement Notification plugin allows staff members to create a fake notification that sits on top of the existing, legitimate ones.

You can choose what text shows in the notification, what background and side-highlight color it should have (if any), and what the text in the "NEW" icon should say.

Members can click "clear notification" to remove it from their list of notifications, or "mark as read" to prevent it from creating or incrementing their notification bubble. Clicking the [?] button will pop open a dialog explaining that the notification is produced by a plugin.


Important note!
This plugin uses a key to keep track of whether or not a member has chosen to clear the notification. With that in mind, whenever you need to put up a new notification, you should configure it in the plugin settings and then go to Admin > Plugins > Manage > Keys tab and clear out the key data for the Announcement Notification plugin (by clicking "Clear" next to the appropriate key), so the notification shows for everybody on the forum again. If you don't clear out this data this way, the users that have chosen to clear a notification in the past will not receive your new notification.

Random question - could this be used to do multiple announcements? If yes I have a plan for it but I need to know this

Right now, it's just one at a time, since I'm using a key to keep track of the viewed status of the notification, and you need to clear out the data whenever you want to send a new one. I could make a duplicate plugin that has a unique key and then theoretically two at a time should be possible, but it would unfortunately occupy another key slot.

What I was thinking of using it for was to effectively do monthly notifications on SHIELD eg
"New mission pack uploaded this month"
"Check out the [Event name] here!"
"New Case File sign ups are go!"

So each month I'd be clearing the key out hence asking, not sure if something like this is possible

Ah -- would those go up one at a time, or all three together?

All at the same time at the start of the month, just I don't want them going up as one notification but three as its three different things

I see. Yeah, in this case the only way we'd be able to do that is if you put all the information into one notification (which you just said isn't ideal), or if I made two duplicate plugins that occupied a total of 3 key slots for each of the unique notifications.

David I hate to be a royal pain but could you create a fourth - I just realised that some months there'll potentially be a fourth announcement to make for the monthly/bi-monthly/quarterly (I've not decided the period yet) IC Award ceremonies

Hi um, I'm wondering if you can help me with an issue that I'm having with this plugin?

I remember being on an RPG Forum before I made my own and someone was using your plugin, but whenever I clicked on "Mark as read" it wouldn't do anything and the notification would still be there. The only time the notification would go away was to clear it instead of marking it as read.

Now some of my own members on my forum are having this same problem, and I'm not sure why? I cleared the key before I updated the announcement, if that has anything to do with it.

Hi! I can't seem to get the notification bubble to pop up over 'Profile'. I've searched and searched and not found that I had changed the name of 'Profile' at all, so I don't know what's wrong. Help please?

When you go into your profile though, it does say 'Notification (1)'... but no one will see that!
