When a post is replied to people see the word new.
Post Comments not showing up as new means people do not know that a post comment was posted.

Not directly. It is possible with a plugin by P̌̓aͧś̀t̀u͒le͆o͂2̀3̃̓ called Interest Notification Centre.

It won't display the word "new" next to new comments, but it will notify the user of new comments.

The username should be clickable. The one specifying who the comment is off anyway.

Clickable links would be good but that opens a whole can full of worms with an ever lasting list of bbcode that should work, with various people wanting or restricting different BBcode.

Is it possible to have it where a user gets a notification when a comment is posted on one (or more) of their posts? I realize that this would most likely require a key, of which I'm fine with. Maybe a popup when they log on? New comments could be cleared all at once from clicking OK on the popup, or even (if possible) from clearing each entry in the popup (to keep the key from filling up, as old entries would be removed, perhaps with a shift)? Not sure what would be easier, if possible.

When v6 hits with its unlimited keys I might take a look, until then P̌̓aͧś̀t̀u͒le͆o͂2̀3̃̓ has an Interest Notification plugin that will do what you're looking for.

It seems to work on my test board. Can you confirm that you have this in the first line in the Advanced Tab of the settings.

table:first .content, .widget-recent-post-content, .widget-specific-post-content


Or just copy and paste the line above, save it, then refresh the recent posts page. If it still doesn't work it will probably be a theme issue.

That's what I have. It's probably because I'm running a plugin that allows me to display only thread starters.

PS: I think the answer is NO, but I'd like the comments to display as buttons in all but one board where I'd like the whole comment field to appear. Is this possible?

If you have specified certain boards in the plugin setting then the plugin would not run on the recent posts page because that page doesn't belong to a board (has no "board_id")

I haven't enabled/disabled specific boards.  I do have several hidden boards.
