P̌̓aͧś̀t̀u͒le͆o͂2̀3̃̓ - since we don't have an ETA on v6 yet since your post roughly a year ago, any chance you'd be willing to add 'staff communications only' sooner? Also would it be possible to exclude certain member groups (either via whitelist or blacklist, whichever is easier to code) from this? I run an RP with multiple accounts per member, and we send all communications to accounts in the "OOC" group -- however, mass PMs etc are still received by the in-character groups. It would be nice to specify that only [staff ] groups and the [ooc] group would be affected by this plugin. I could have that done in theory. But it took me months to get it running, not including time to get ideas and work-arounds. I think the easy solution in this case would be to give the ability to turn on/off pm read receipts based on whether the person wants it to be tracked. The whole reason it must wait until v6 is to remove the half of the plugin that deals with mobile users. This plugin is 10x more complicated because of compensating for the "invisible" data that phone users can avoid the plugin altogether. Then the plugin interprets if it was viewed mobile and tries to add that data back into the key as best as possible. Not to mention the plugin wont even work after v6 is implemented. But I do like your suggestion.

Thank you for looking into it! I mentioned this in your other reply, but I did decide to work this a different way for the time being (:

Quick question-- for "staff only," does it mean only staff will receive "PM read" receipts but they get it from all users, or does it mean only staff get the receipts but they only get the read receipts from other staff? I'm a bit confused on the wording in the plugin =) support.proboards.com/post/6930977Chris came up with a solution

I like the read receipts, but I hate the pop-ups about it. Every time we open our mailbox or a PM we get a popup. I feel that that is unnecessary and annoying. Please allow us to remove the pop-up and just mark the message as read when it is opened. Also, this plugin refreshes the page so quickly that I have to be very fast just to close the pop-up!
*EDIT* I believe the refresh issue has something to do with the clock I just installed at the top of the screen. Since it changes every second, this plug-in refreshes every second as well.
Help?

Proboards refuses to let data be saved without a button press. The timer is to prevent data corruption and minimalize any potential errors. This is because proboards does not like unneeded data stored. I have messaged the admins and this can't be overcome. I personally don't use it. But in situations where PM is necessary for the function of a forum, this was put together the only way possible. Through annoying as crap pop-ups.

This pop-up adjusts any read messages that were viewed in mobile mode. Which is half as annoying. But v6 disables mobile mode so many new plugins will be able to be created.

Ahhh okay. I may only use it for staff-to-staff messages then.

I think this is the plugin that's causing a countdown while replying to PMs - so if you leave the tab open too long, you lose the Send button and can only get it back by refreshing the page? Is this feature this bit? Minute timer to preserve key freshness (removes all message data at end and lets you proceed) Time can be adjusted. I don't understand the need for this timer. How can it be removed, so we only have PMs marked as read without the time limit on replying? Thanks.

Mand the plugin author has not been online for sometime and I'm not that familiar with this plugin except to say I know of it but the quote on this page pretty much answers your question. I had a feeling I wasn't going to hear from the plugin author. I wasn't talking about the popup, but when I was typing a PM yesterday on my own forum, I found I couldn't hit Send when I was ready to, because it had timed out. Never seen this before - anywhere! The problem was solved by refreshing the page but not all members will work that out. Before it times out, there's a countdown superimposed on the Send button - minutes and seconds, starting from either 30 or 60 minutes. Seems very odd as I can't see why it would matter if I go away and have a meal in the middle of composing a PM! I'll probably just deactivate this plugin so as to get rid of it. Which is a pity, as I like having the option of read receipts. It's only a tiny forum, five members including me, and so we don't PM very often. I'm the only one remotely techy and there's at least one that I *know* would lose her whole PM if the timeout thing happened to her, and then ask me as Admin how she can PM people now...

If you're familiar with those old style website visitor counters then you could easily employ such a counter image embedded in a PM to verify when that PM was read
