I'd like to restrict my shoutbox so that it can only be visible to members and not guests. Is this possible?
Yes. Go into your admin area and select Structure > Layout Templates > Shoutbox. Make sure your default theme is selected in the theme selection dropdown towards the top of the page, as this is the theme that guests see.
Enter this before the first line of the code on that page.
(To restrict to staff instead, the code is very similar - change the word "member" to "staff".)
And place this after the very last line of the code.
Save the changes and your shoutbox will no longer be visible to guests, just members that are logged into their account.
