hey there i been googling how to get rid of/disable display name change i have seen a plugin but doesnt work for mobile so even though it is nice, still doesnt completely get rid of it then i came across two codes i think, javascript stuff that people said to put in the footer but those were from years ago and they do not work with proboards now i found out so is it possible to get a script again that does work with proboards NOW that could get rid of it entirely and that is also easy to work with and all thats needed is to put it in the main footer or so? just a code that hides it or something, so it is not on display anymore when editing profile one of the codes i came across are; support.proboards.com/thread/70613thank you

JavaScript is JavaScript - whether it's placed in a header / footer or in a plugin. If someone has JS turned off, or are running on mobile, it won't matter where the code is put - it'll be the same result as using the plugin ... at least until V6 launches (no ETA given on that yet, though).

because now im thinking maybe jcink is better Are you basing that off of this one aspect, or overall? I've never used JCink, but I know support here is unsurpassed. I'm not saying which way you should go, as that's your decision, but I would recommend looking at the whole picture for both. It would be a shame to put a lot of work on one, just to find out you'd prefer the other. There are a lot of features here on PB. Take a look at some of the help guides posted and what's new for V6: - Linked Help Guide Index- What's coming for V6

Usernames and Display names are different here. A username cannot be changed at all. A display name is changeable by a member (unless a plugin is there to prevent - with limitations stated above) from their Profile > Edit Profile > Personal (tab) > Display Name. I can change my display name here to just about anything, but my username will always be msg.

You can disable the ability to change the Display Name with CSS styling.. To a point..
Add this to the style sheet of your forum..
.form_user_edit_personal>[name=name] { pointer-events: none; }
The only problem is that it may not work with some of the older browsers.

I'm afraid not. CSS is extremely limited on what you can do. To select who this code effects would require JavaScript, then we're back to what has already been said,

If the element has the user ID of the member near it, you could use the: not () selector in CSS Of use js to fix the css for only his user i am not a pro at coding care to explain? could your idea actually work? well you could use my plugin to disable site viewing if javascript is disabled and you could use his code (assuming it works) to disable it on everyone's profile. Then you could run a third code that would remove todges code for you (which wouldn't be hard) But at the end of the day, they can do what they want on mobile.
