I would like a header and footer code with a sidebar. You can get a side bar by going to your admin panel, clicking the plugin library and doing a search. I'd recommend the "Side Bar Redux" but if you just type in "sidebar" in the search box, many different options will turn up. You can download it straight to your forum. As for as the header/footer code, you are going to have to be much more specific in what you are wanting.

I don't think I can download it. In the past I have always put my sidebars up as part of skins. I put the side bar code into the header where my skin code goes.

That no longer works the way it used to, sadly. There should be a way to download/upload it onto your site(not computer) but I am not fully sure how anymore. You can also get premade skins that way too.

I think it would actually go in your forum-wrapper and not your header/footer area anyway. You want the sidebar as a site-wide thing correct? And even if not, you can hide the sidebar for certain pages with if/else statements.

I don't think I can download it. In the past I have always put my sidebars up as part of skins. I put the side bar code into the header where my skin code goes. It's much easier now. If you go to the library you can install it directly to your forum and then you can select which "skins" or themes you want the side bars on. You can have them on all themes/skins or just one theme/skin. (You do that by once you've installed the side bar, go to Plugins manage and click edit and there will be a drop down to select which themes.) You can totally style them much like you did using headers/footers.
