Action bar mod request/help

Hi  

I'm having this idea flying around brain a few times this week, it's for the action bar above threads to be somekind of profile clicky bit for the thread maker.




i.e .... when you scroll down in a thread the action bar gets stuck, so when it gets stuck i want the mini profile of the member who created the thread (very mini) to pop out the right side, with clickable stuff and views/posts etc to their profile.




I wanted to do this, just put the avy in the action bar, but i'm thinking like a mini banner/profile action bar kinda thing now.

edit: could we have mini banner popout on the left ?  they (they thread maker) could put the img url in the thread edit bit before they make the thread  ? or in a custom field in they profile page.

Two dimes just won't cut it @joecool111. Ha ha ha

I'm having trouble envisioning what you are asking. Would it be possible you could make a rough draft in paint or something to show what you want to happen when the action bar goes in the fixed position? I'm also wondering what purpose it would serve.

I'm having trouble envisioning what you are asking. Would it be possible you could make a rough draft in paint or something to show what you want to happen when the action bar goes in the fixed position? I'm also wondering what purpose it would serve.

So when you scroll down in a thread i want the 'mini banner' on the left to appear/popout, and the mp to appear on the right.

and the purpose would be awesomeness

OH well since it is awesomeness, who can argue with that? ha ha ha Let me take a break from the computer so maybe my brain will start working out how to do this. In other words, I'm hungry and need to eat dinner but I'll be thinking about it as I stuff my face.

Well, I thought it would be fun to get the "boxes" to show up on either side and I got it working great in Chrome and Edge, but it's not working in IE (no surprise there)or FF (big surprise there)so it stopped being fun so I came back,  read your other thread you linked to in your first post and I am stuck the same place you were stuck & don't know of a possible way to get the original posters avatar & whatever-stuff.  So I'm not messing with trying to work out the FF/IE thing since I'm stuck where you are. 

But if you have Chrome or Edge, the idea is sort of semi-sorta-awesome. Test Site

ok so the avatars not to much needed if it's not possible, we could just have member name and stuff on the right if that's easier ? 

and the banner on the left i was thinking now more longer and collapsible if this possible. So members can put a full length photo of themselves head to toe if they want in it.

Sorry Oreo, I shouldn't have even got your hopes up by posting in your thread as I think this is way beyond something I can do the more I think about it. I think this sounds more like a plug in request. Let me tag a couple red names that are online right now and maybe they can give us an idea if any of this is possible and it it needs to be a plugin request rather than a template request. Scott   Ulises (wow Ulises, that is one awesome mini profile you have there.Very cool. I went to your mp to fetch your tag name or I never would have noticed.)

Yeah, it'd be better as a plugin or a mix of both. Using Tumbleweed 's template and this code (just pop it into the developer console). I was able to get the mini-profile in the left sidie (lol) bar.

Thanks so much, Ulises . I totally don't know what I'm doing with javascript and jquery so that's why I needed help. I put the script as you said, just tossed it in the plugin console with some small amendments and it is working fine on my test site. (I learned from what you posted.  )

So now @joecool111 , where do you want to go from here? Would you prefer someone else do a total plugin version for you (I can't do plugins because of my jquery deficiency)?  We know if you want the member to add their own image for the right side and I think that might be done via custom fields so there is that, plus I still don't know why my side boxes don't work in FF or IE. I am going to try to work out the FF/IE issue just because it is bugging me but let me know where you  want to go from here. If you want someone else to do a plug in for all this, that is fine with me because I can't guarantee I can work out what is left to do.

you've done half of it anyways for them, so it shouldn't be as difficult.
