I see you haven't had many reviews so far so I'm just going to toss my two cents in here and hope it helps you out.

Layout:

The skin isn't bad, the dark pastel colors on the category heads are nice with the darker over all scheme makes it easy to look at night or day.

Space is my jam so the background is a definite plus, though maybe find a larger background and disable tiling? The main page background, that is. though this applies to some of the others as well where they don't fit all screen sizes. Your best bet is to look at the current most popular resolution size and get an image that is one step larger. It looks a tad unprofessional to have it repeating like it does as the image isn't meant to be tiled (doesn't flow, instead it abruptly stops at the edges) or if you don't mind it being a tad blurry you can set the background to fill or 100% to take up the whole space with the same small image.

The banner looks fine, though the white text over it with the forum's name is a bit difficult to read with the bright chakra image directly behind it. If you gave gave it an outline (can be done with text-shadow css and won't override the blue shadow you have) it would be way easier to see.

There doesn't seem to be any rules to your forum? I understand that you are providing a safe haven for people who have questions about things that they might not feel comfortable talking about with a name attached but it is always a good idea to lay out what you expect for them not to do. One major thing is making sure the people who use your forum know about the proboards ToS so you don't get in trouble for things posted that go against them since a lot of people skip over that when accessing any website.

Other than that the content looks fine. You seem like an approachable administrator and are very open with everything you are doing with the forum which should be encouraging for people.

Conclusions:

Your forum doesn't really need to change much, just the minor background image issue and the text in the banner. Just stay active and advertise around to similar sites and with social media and you'll be fine.

Hey thanks for the great review! As you said, I don't get them very often so I really do appreciate any feedback anyone gives, so thanks! You bring up some great points. I do have some very generic baseline rules for our platform and just generally involves the golden rule and no spamming, but you brought up the proboards TOS which is actually a good idea to include in our rules thread. Thank you for that.

In regards to the background images and tiling, I appreciate this input. I have had a hard time with getting backgrounds to match up properly (as you noticed) and seems maybe a better choice would be to stretch it to 100% or do the resolution idea like you recommended. This is definitely my goal for the day as I have put it off for so long. Great idea as well with the outline around the words on the banner.
