Forum URL: loveevertonforum.comIs it possible to edit the default settings on the share system? Two reasons spring to mind: 1. The default setting uses the url of the thread, which is bad practise, as if ever the thread is moved, the link will die where ever you placed it. This would be far better if it used the identity of the actual first post in the thread, "Link to post", and an even better solution would be if every post had the option to share in 'it's' option box. These links never die, if a post or thread is moved or merged. 2. By default, it gives #proboards tag, which no disrespect to Proboards, but it isn't helpful to any of us who have our own custom url's, as our purpose is to advertise our own individual forum, or, tag content that appeals to our readers, in our case, it would be #Everton. Can we change it, to stop saying #proboards, and instead have it say #Everton ? The purpose of the function is surely to save us time, and takes the user directly to the social media site of their choice, but if we then have to start editing it, it can be time consuming instead. Hope I've explained myself well, and not been too blunt.

Hi, Barkley. A thread's URL is the same regardless of whether or not the thread has been moved to another board. The only time a thread's URL would change is if you created a new thread and moved all of the posts into that, at which point it's no longer the same thread. There's also no guarantee you're not going to delete a thread or post that's already been shared. We will not be removing the ProBoards hashtag from the default share link.

My experience is that the url at the top of the page above a thread, and the link to the first post of a thread using the 'link to post' method are different, and if the thread gets moved, the first URL no longer works, but the 'link to post' one does. support.proboards.com/thread/619953/edit-share-thread-optionsupport.proboards.com/post/6968967/threadStill, if we can't edit it, then that's my answer, so thanks for replying.

Both URLs remain the same if you move a thread.
The link to the full thread utilizes the thread ID. The thread always retains that ID regardless of which board it originated from or which board it was moved to.

It's when a thread is 'merged' with another thread. After being merged, the original url no longer works, but the linked post still works, which is why I ALWAYS link to the first post, when linking a thread or article on social media etc. Cheers.

Barkley, the action drop-down is "Share Thread" which is why it uses the thread URL. You approached this as a post/thread being moved, not merged, which of course is a different animal altogether. You generally 'share' a thread because of the topic of conversation. If you merge threads, the conversation in a sense has then changed and thus the original share could be misleading. I'm not sure if sharing threads that later become merged with other threads is such a wide spread practice that requires a software change? I can still at least label this as a feature request and let the powers that be evaluate the merits of your suggestion. Thanks.

Yeah, sometimes I get a Eureka moment and remember the correct term ha ha. It's more a case of when you have a bit of a forum tidy up. Sometimes, admins / mods like to merge threads into one big one, for varying reasons. I've found by using the 'link to post' method, it safeguards against moderation, and links remain alive in Cyberspace regardless of where the post or thread was moved to. Many folk don't think that far ahead, but it's a worthwhile option. Have a great day mate.
