Forum URL: stsboard.proboards43.comWe have had anywhere from 30 - 65 guests online for the past 4 hours or so. We are not doing any extra advertising at all. This is not normal. We average between 10 - 15 on a GOOD day. I was wondering if perhaps one of the staff could take a look and see if there is a glitch somewhere. Or perhaps if you can see what referrer they are coming from. Thanks. *UPDATE* We just went from 42 guests online to 0. Then on the next refresh it was up to 12. 5 minutes later we are at 28.

A glitch wouldn't cause that mate. As you can see in the list, all IPs are logged. They are all genuine. Looks like someone posted the link somewhere with alot of traffic. I can't set up a referrer at the minute mate

No sweat Craig. Thanks for looking into it though.
We are running an ad on Fark but not for the forum. Just for the main site.
But we've been doing that for over a month now and never saw a spike like this.

I did look to see if they are going to a certain topic, but most of them are on the main page.

I removed the ads we have and still no change.
They just continue to grow.
Is it possible they are getting a URL mixed up ?
Just seems a bit strange. We even have a few of the new guests actually register and start posting.
Which makes me believe it is due to an ad somewhere.
But we have no ads anywhere.
How can I set up my own referrer on the board ? That way I can try to track where the visitors are coming from ?
Still pushing 20 - 80 guests everytime I refresh.

Remember, it doesn't have to be you that posted the link somewhere. Someone could simply have posted the link on another forum, and thus loads of click thrus. You can use something like www.statcounter.com/

I've use statcounter........ it gives vague results.
I figured you guys might have a better answer for me.
If not, I 'll just take it as it comes.
A message from one of thew guests say they got the addy from FOX.
That Fox news ?
I'm looking into where fox broadcasts.

So far 1 out of 10 guests have registered. But havent gotten anything more than to say they saw the board on FOX.
I am guessing on FOX tv somewhere.
It is a major affiliate here in the states.
Still getting 20 - 60 12 hours later.
I'm not complaining. It's good traffic. I'm just curious where these people are coming from.
I added statcounter and they require 48 hours untill the results are accurate.
ugh.

I have had the same issue with my board the last few days. It's a private board for my website, which only gets an average of 100 visitors per day. You have to register to see the threads on my board, yet there are times when I have 50+ guests show up. When I check the IP addresses, the IPs are all very similar. I haven't had any spam on the board, but I wonder if it's some kind of spam thing, or if it's just a glitch? I highly doubt it's actually 50 people, since I haven't had any new members register in awhile.

I've use statcounter........ it gives vague results. On Statcounter, there is an option for viewing referrals, you can see exactly where they came from. i've found many that have come from google searches, and what search terms they used. some are quite funny ;D

They are hitting the page directly. That means they are actually typing in the address ?
