While I appreciate the compliment, please be aware that this is just many years of working in this field rather than being particularly intelligent :P I would hope after 12 years and counting of web development, the latter 10 of which were professionally, that anyone would be able to know the the same information :)

Forums are kinda tricky when it comes to SEO. Organic traffic is really not a thing when it comes to forums(as they are considered discussion rather than authoritative)

What analytic tools can provide forum owners is a way to understand what sort of content your viewers do like and engage with. In some cases you do need to setup custom event tracking. If you see ALOT of traffic going to a certain thread, consider adding a link(in that thread) to a similar thread, this improves engagement.

Ads are kind tricky also. By default Ads will be displayed on a user basis(your location,likes, sites visited etc).
To get relevant Ads to your content, you need to do some on-page SEO which kinda does not work with forums(at least currently).

Using the internet and actively being a professional web developer are two different beasts though. Just because you read a book doesn’t mean you know how to publish one. (: I genuinely don’t expect anyone to know this information unless they’ve had to actually deal with the topic. If this is your first time attempting to monetise a website, there’s no reason to expect you know how it works! But in my profession, things like best marketing practices are literally part of my job. On any given day I’m actively involved in multiple marketing campaigns and web development for user-oriented content for sale. My knowledge is based on a combination of the length i’ve been online as well as my job. It’s not because I’m more or less intelligent than you, I just have more practical experience.

There is no need for apologies! I do not mean to seem ungracious about this. I just don’t think you should be down on yourself (you called yourself dim witted earlier, then complimented my brain) for lack of knowledge / experience in this! This is a specialised field, and it’s unreasonable and unfair to yourself to be harsh about not knowing the intricate details, or to associate the knowledge accumulated over 12 years and counting as a measure of intelligence rather than a pursued skill / interest (:
