Long overdue, but it’s finally here. Another chance at trying out v6 right here on the support forum! Once again, you can go to your profile here on ProBoards Support and set your theme to the “v6 Alpha” theme.
Let’s start off with a few notes to keep in mind while discovering the new version:
The alpha is only available on the ProBoards Support forum. No other forum will have access to this (yet).
We want your feedback! Read below for more info on how to do that.
How to access the ProBoards v6 Support Forum Alpha
1) Go to your profile page
2) Click the Groups tab
3) Click "Join Group" next to the "v6 Alpha Tester" group
4) In your Profile Settings, change your Theme to "v6 Alpha"
5) Enjoy v6!
Visit the Alpha 2 Feedback board and leave us a message! Please try to keep your message constructive, and provide us details and examples of areas you like, or dislike. Please be detailed in your feedback. Links to specific pages you are commenting on and screenshots are appreciated. The more details and thoughts we receive, the more actions we can take.
Found what you believe is a bug? Something isn’t working how you expect it to work? A feature did not work at all? Report it in the Bug Report board! We only ask that you follow the instructions for filing a bug report, and write in a clear and understandable language. We must be able to understand and reproduce the bug to be able to fix it.
Reported bugs will be added to our work list as the alpha moves along, so you might see some fixes appear during the course of testing.
What’s changed since the first alpha?
A number of changes will be immediately apparent, but some might be hiding under the hood. Here is a brief list of things to check out:
Refreshed look and feel of boards and threads
New per-user generated default avatars
Mini avatars now contain extra info about the user - hover over (or touch) an avatar to check it out
Updated mini profiles, with changed focus on likes rather than post count (don’t worry, the posts are still counted, and you can always add post counts to the mini profile, if desired)
New FAB (floating action button) actions and animations
As with any software in testing, some things will be broken. Currently, the following features are disabled or non functional:
Right click to quote highlighted text
- Some staff level displays are not displaying any data
What’s coming up?
Quality of life improvements all around! With the final touches of the front end of the forum, we’ll be focusing on making the use of the forum as easy and convenient as possible.
We’ll be making some requested updates to the floating WYSIWYG, including the already mentioned highlight-to-quote feature, and the resizability or perhaps movability of the window itself, on top of many minor improvements.
Fairly soon we also expect that we will be starting the beta - allowing you to install a v6 theme on your forum, or a test forum. We are still ironing out the details surrounding the beta so please keep an eye out for that announcement when we're closer to that stage.
