It's ridiculous isn't it? Although I cannot stand the song myself, Frank Loesser wrote it for him & his wife to perform at parties. Doesn't seem quite so nefarious now huh? The most contentious line is the "Say what's in this drink" line which is a line from a 1930's movie & it means (in context) "I'm telling the truth". It has sod all to do with coercing sex. I bet they still play Funky Cold Medina there. Now that is about roofies & date rape. If they are going to take that stance with this song, then they'd need to take a serious listen to a heck of a lot of 80's songs & practically every rap track ever released (although the latter being banned would be a blessing).

The PC police are ruining a lot of good things that are essentially harmless...yes they can do good things and they have, but this is now getting ridiculous. Thank goodness I use my own playlists to listen to my music.

Star 102, WDOK-FM, calls itself "Cleveland's Christmas station." But its listeners are discovering that one holiday chestnut has been kicked to the curb.
"Baby, It's Cold Outside," the duet in which a man tries to dissuade a woman from leaving a party despite her repeated protestations, has been pulled from the station's Christmas playlist amid concerns about its predatory nature.
I really can't stay (Baby it's cold outside) I gotta go away (Baby it's cold outside) This evening has been (Been hoping that you'd dropped in) So very nice (I'll hold your hands they're just like ice) My mother will start to worry (Beautiful what's your hurry?) My father will be pacing the floor (Listen to the fireplace roar) So really I'd better scurry (Beautiful please don't hurry) Well maybe just a half a drink more (I'll put some records on while I pour) The neighbors might think (Baby it's bad out there) Say what's in this drink? (No cabs to be had out there) I wish I knew how (Your eyes are like starlight now) To break this spell (I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell) (Why thank you) I ought to say no, no, no sir (Mind if move in closer?) At least I'm gonna say that I tried (What's the sense of hurtin' my pride?) I really can't stay (Baby don't hold out) Baby it's cold outside Ah, you're very pushy you know? I like to think of it as opportunistic I simply must go (Baby it's cold outside) The answer is no (But baby it's cold outside) The welcome has been (How lucky that you dropped in) So nice and warm (Look out the window at that storm) My sister will be suspicious (Gosh your lips look delicious!) My brother will be there at the door (Waves upon a tropical shore) My maiden aunt's mind is vicious (Gosh your lips are delicious!) Well maybe just a cigarette more (Never such a blizzard before) (And I don't even smoke) I've got to get home (Baby you'll freeze out there) Say lend me a coat? (It's up to your knees out there!) You've really been grand, (I feel when I touch your hand) But don't you see? (How can you do this thing to me?) There's bound to be talk tomorrow (Think of my life long sorrow!) At least there will be plenty implied (If you caught pneumonia and died!) I really can't stay (Get over that old out) Baby it's cold Baby it's cold outside Okay fine, just another drink then That took a lot of convincing!
I just don't get it!

Well Pearson, I get it. I don't agree with the banning but I get it. The song neither glorifies nor stigmatizes a behavior. It just presents human interaction. The viewer/listener is free to make whatever value judgment they choose. A problem arises when some people choose to make their own value judgments and assign those to the intent of the song. Ironically in the scene featuring Betty Garrett and Red Skelton, Betty's character clearly steps over the line from being assertive and overly persuasive to being downright aggressive. Her last move, before turning out the light, is to physically throw herself on top of him.

The only over-reaction I’ve seen has been from people opposed to this decision. It’s adorable the way grown-butt people can throw fits when told “no”. This is especially true when those people aren’t even within the area of effect, but mob-rule outrage doesn’t care about things like geography or proportional emotional responses.
If a radio station decides it will no longer play a song for whatever reason, so be it. The only aspect of this situation that I find contentious is the choice to announce its decision as some sort of moral grandstanding/publicity stunt. They should have quietly pulled the song from rotation and moved on without a peep. The vast majority of their audience likely wouldn’t even notice the song was absent, with those who did notice likely assuming it was played while they weren’t listening. If they received call-in requests, they could simply say the song wasn’t part of their current catalog of available content and ask for the callers’ second choices—no need to give an explanation, none owed to anyone.
Besides, what the hell does a song about one person trying to nag another person into giving it up on a cold winter night have to do with Christmas? Not a damn thing.

have to do with Christmas? Not a damn thing. Not sure why Christmas entered into the conversation here, Derek‽. Other than the mention of how the radio station that banned it from their playlist refers to their role, no one here focused on that aspect. It's a winter song. Ya know like Sleigh Ride and Winter Wonderland? Neither of which have anything directly to do with Christmas other than the weather.

I don't think that any of us who are opposed to this decision is "throwing fits", but many of us are getting tired of the PC police when no policing is needed. Nor do I think we are qualified as being a mob. I do agree on one thing though- you are correct in saying that this should have been done quietly instead of trying to shake up an already shaky country and using social media to do so. If there is one thing I hate about this generation is the so-called social media. It started out to be something wonderful and then flopped (IMO). Perhaps we should call it Lets Stir Up Some Hate media.

Plenty of opinions in the news about the country being addicted to rage, being offended. I do not think the whole country feels that way!

There's even debate now over Do They Know It's Christmas? The premise being the lyrics appear to refer to the whole continent of Africa & not Ethiopia as was the intention & it paints all Africans as needy & starving while the West are some sort of benevolent peoples helping them out.
& then there's Jingle Bells that was originally performed on a minstrel show in black face make up.
Although I'm not a believer in xmas (I think people should be kind to each other every day tbh) It strikes me that a bit too much time has been spent picking holes in things that make people happy. It's as if SJW's all want to compete with the Daily Fail & Fox News to make people miserable & frightened.
What's next? Frosty The Snowman encouraging people to misbehave in town centres, waving weapons around & running away from police officers when asked to stop?

Soon they will gain power and will make the Nazi's and early Soviet Communist years look like a small disturbance in a tea cup.
This will happen!
