No "post creation" in Security Logs

I am curious why the creation of a post is not logged, but the deletion is.  Personally I would like to see post creations logged, but maybe that is just me (I find the asymmetry disturbing in a Sheldon Cooper-kind of way).

tpgettys, because the action of creating a post is already logged within the post itself. The post tells you who created it and when. There is no need to duplicate this information.

Scott, perhaps I am missing something, but I was talking about the deletion of a post and its entry in the security logs.  Once the post has been deleted I can not discover when it was created because it was deleted!

I really think the creation event should be recorded so that information will not disappear.

A rather important bit of info relating to your initial question that would have been nice to have that from the beginning

The same as for having any of the information in the security logs.  One example: more than once we have had a member make a claim that their post was deleted or moved out of sequence.  By referencing the security logs we can determine if a deletion was made, but not a repost (creation) since that is not currently recorded.

We would potentially consider adding a "created" log that would appear as part of the deletion log. For example:

"Admin Deleted the post 'I need help' created 11-5-18 1:21am"

Having a log for every post creation would be way too much though and I have a feeling that 99.9% of admins/staff would never view or use a creation log.

That looks real good Michael ; an elegant solution!

Here is what our deletion entries look like:

Deleted: post [51972 by hmca] in thread Very Big Topic: Lighting

so just tacking the creation timestamp to that as you suggested would be great!
