Hello, I hope everyone is doing okay. I was wondering if anybody knew some forums (preferably PB ones, but any are fine) centered around depression? I considered making my own, but frankly I rather join an existing forum, with a community already established. Making my own forum seems like it'd take a lot of work, specially with building up the activity. And unfortunately I don't really have the energy for that.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have. And I've tried different keywords such as: depression, anxiety, mental illness, etc. But the results lead to forums that have died out or are no longer active. Thanks though.

codeplayer, sorry to hear that. You could also try a Google search with your keywords and our domains: "proboards" "freeforums.net" and "boards.net"

Hi codeplayer I noticed one a few months back when Jan4Jam was asking for technical help and getting some from Craig . She seemed very appreciative and polite. Here's a link to her custom page: mentalhealthsupportcommunity.com/ it has custom domain, but it's a ProBoards forum. If you click on Forum in her Navigation menu, you can see the layout of her forum.

codeplayer , I don't know your situation, but if it becomes grim, you might want to check out the link in my signature.

I hope, in some sense that EVERY forum is accepting of discussions about mental health. I appreciate this may not be the case, however.
I'm on a forum for the Football (Soccer for my transatlantic brethren) team i support and whilst it is full of male bravado and testosterone, mental health is taken very seriously and we all band together to be there.
Even here, if someone needs help, there WILL be someone to listen.

My depression is now cured. In all seriousness, I do appreciate all these supportive messages. You're all very kind. My want to find a forum dedicated to depression, is because if I were to just join any forum that had a depression thread, then it'd seem like all I do is complain and not really contribute to the rest of the board. And I don't always have the energy to do so. But nevertheless, I'm hoping the forum Retread posted will approve my registration soon, and I'll be able to check it out. It seems promising. That, and this site also seems quite friendly, so I'll probably stick around.

Well there's that, but also the concept that when you participate in a forum that's centered around a specific area, you can share experiences and learn from each other. You'll have the benefit of hearing about methods and techniques others use to cope with the same issues which are presenting challenges for you. This can be one more way of expanding your support system. By the way, you need not wait until your situation becomes grim to get some benefit from the links in wildmaven 's signature. You can call (with pen and paper at hand) to get links and/or phone numbers for resources which can help you. Be CERTAIN to tell them your current situation immediately when you get connected. If you're not in crisis mode, they still can give you some contacts if they have time. Of course if they're overloaded with people in crisis, they will just ask you to hold or call back later.

Thank you so very much. I'm not in any grim situation at the very moment, but I admit there are times when thoughts overcome reason. But there shouldn't be any cause for worry right now, I'll be fine. Thank you for your concerns, it's nice to know there are people who'll go out of their way to help.
I'm still waiting to have my account approved on that forum you recommended, but I'm thinking the staff might be busy/away. So it might be some time before I'm able to participate in the board. Before you mentioned the site though, I was working on my own forum, but I'm hesitant to post it anywhere, since it requires a lot of effort to build it up. But I might consider it in the end. Maybe.

I was working on my own forum, but I'm hesitant to post it anywhere, since it requires a lot of effort to build it up. But I might consider it in the end. Maybe. While I am always happy to see others making their own forums, doing so when you have bouts of depression might be unwise. It's very easy to get disheartened by low membership, spats between members, being the bad guy sometimes, or even if you're too busy to post, all of which can worsen depression. The creation process is a lot of fun. Running a site can present challenges, sometimes on a daily basis. If you do open one, just know yourself and your limits and you'll do fine.

Though I ended up biting the bullet anyways, since there really aren't any sites I can join at the current time, and I still haven't been approved on that forum that was suggested. Which is fine, of course. But I thought I'd at least try. If it fails, then oh well. I don't really have much to lose, haha.
