Forum URL: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/The situation:You can choose whether or not to get Participated notifications (forum bubble and a count/links on your Global account page). But that's for the entire forum. You can opt-in or opt out of this type of notification on a board-by-board basis for likes, quotes, and tags but not for new posts on a thread in which you have participated. The result:Example: If you ever participate in a thread on: "Get Opinions About Your Forum", you are eternally damned to a lifetime of daily notifications every time the threadstarter posts 'bump'. This is a participation KILLER:Seriously, who in their right mind would willing subject themselves to this, once they realize the effect? You can't really blame the threadstarter. They have every right to use their daily bump if they choose to put their thread at the top of the stack and get their forum noticed and possibly receive some new ideas. But it's supremely annoying for the participants.
I almost want to smash my keyboard like the Angry German kid in the Flappy Birds video. It's that annoying. The present cure is worse than the disease:I could just turn off Participated notifications for the entire forum, but I need those. When I post a reply on a thread in the Support Board or on one of the Coding boards, often one of these brilliant people who knows more than I, will reply with a better solution or spot a detail I missed. Those are pure gold. I can't forfeit those learning experiences. Clarification:When I say please, I mean: Pretty please ... with sugar on top ... and nice red maraschino cherry. Make this happen and I'll personally wash your car once a week for the rest of the year! (Okay, not really but I can't begin to express how grateful I'll be.)

I turn off the participated (via my profile) and then just bookmark the threads I want to follow.

I'd just like to throw out there that as long as you keep posting (not in that thread, but other threads), it'll fall off the list.

That's good to know, but roughly how many other threads do I need to post in before it falls off the list? Right now, it's driving me bonkers! I can avoid perpetuating the problem by not posting in places where there's a potential for a daily bump. I'd rather be able to help by offering opinions and ideas, but I won't make that mistake again unless/until this thing is fixed.

The participated dialogue will show you the threads that contain your last 30 posts. So this could be one thread you've replied to 30 times or 30 different threads replied to once or any mix of them. So once the post is older than 30 posts it should naturally fall off the participated list (unless you reply to the thread again).
Alternatively (and easier) you can simply turn off notifications for a thread. Inside the thread select the Actions drop down and then "Mark as New" (assuming the thread is already read) then go back into the Actions drop down and select "Mark as Read>Forever" and you should no longer receive any notifications for that thread.

Now, that's a solution that seems like it will do just what the doctor ordered! I would still prefer to be able to block participated notifications for a entire board. That would require no management on my part, each and every time I participate on a thread in that board. But I can appreciate that alterations to the software and a code-push is not an easy sell. I've now taken that action on one problematic thread and will do so on all future participation on threads in that board. You've saved me a ton of grief. I put a like on your reply. If there was a love button, I'd have used that. lol
