As per support rules, you need to actually include a message body so we can reference the problem without needing to read the thread title. OP's thread title: Posts don't appear without refreshing page. Are you referring to posts in a thread / PM conversation, or in the shoutbox? If it's in a thread or PM, then that is expected behaviour. Things do not automatically update and you must refresh the page. If it's in a shoutbox, you can toggle automatic refresh on and off by toggling the refresh icon, which looks like this: If its neither of these, then you need to actually provide context so we can assist.

Thanks for the response. It is in the thread(s) I was refering to. An auto refresh would be nice or a notification pop-up on the bottom last post that new post are available.

I don't think you're going to get an automatic refresh; automatic refreshes / instant redirects have historically been disallowed in codes and plugins on PB because it could prevent an ad from loading, and I imagine additions like this to the software have the same or at least similar considerations.
The notice that the thread has been updated would be nice though, I agree. When a staff member next comes online they can mark this thread as a feature request. Note that feature requests aren't guaranteed; it could come on release day, on a patch after release, or not at all, depending on the value of the function (ie: estimates on how it would be used and how often)

Hi.
I have marked this as a feature request. It would be nice if the tab indicated a new post by prefixing the (1). The problem with auto refreshes are twofold, however. It would cause problems with advertisers, and the agreement terms ProBoards has with them in terms of how the ads display, and secondly it would put undue stress on the server if thousands of pages were constantly refreshing.

Just a comment, but wouldn't the page count increase exponentially, costing more?

Just a comment, but wouldn't the page count increase exponentially, costing more? It shouldn't have an effect on page numbers. Or do you mean pageviews, as in refreshing would increase pageviews?

Sorry Craig, yes pageviews. No problem. Refreshing would, yes. But a notification alerting of a new post, in the style of a number bubble in the tab title, would hopefully ensure the page is only refreshed when new posts are there to be viewed, so should in theory reduce pageviews.

One thing I was also thinking of is a couple other providers alert you that another post has been made when you try to reply (one does an alert dialogue when hitting submit, another does it so that when you submit the post it reloads the page with your post saved and has a message container above the posting form). That sort of notification I think would be beneficial so people have time to review the thread before submitting their post / without losing their post.

It's very much possible to get notifications of a new post without refreshing. It would actually be more efficient to not refresh the page. When a new post is created, it would send the data of the new post to any user viewing that specific board. The only data being sent is the new post, whereas if it were to refresh the whole page, the data from the entire site would need to be sent again. So in terms of efficiency, it would be best to have some sort of backend realtime notification system. Would definitely be a nice feature for ProBoards to implement.
