huh, I kind of feel like just like family should be a bit of a lower counter. I get it doesnt mean much but to some it does and may make them feel lesser because they don't have some huge number dunno.

Does anyone remember what the ranks were before this 'new' system was introduced (around 2006 I think)? Am I right in thinking Veteran at 5,000 posts used to be the highest rank? My PB memory is rapidly fading...

I feel like I've totally stopped noticing member ranks now that half of the regulars have "Alpha Tester" and "Beta Tester" ranks. Post counts just aren't as insanely and intensely meaningful as they were before I've never considered post counts to have more than a moderate amount of significance. Some people post often but don't add all that much. Some people add a ton but have far fewer posts. Quantity is nice but ... Quality Is.

I didn't even know we had the 'Collecting Dust' and 'Just like Family' ranks. Perhaps I should read the rules more often These were added somewhat recently. Stopping at just 8 stars bothered my OCD sense of balance. We had to go to 10 stars

huh, I kind of feel like just like family should be a bit of a lower counter. I agree with that. From a purely numbers perspective, 100K posts is a ridiculously high ranking when not a single non-staff member has come even close to that in the past nearly twenty years. At this rate, it could be another twenty years before anyone hits that mark, but activity here isn’t like it once was. I get the impression Scott just picked high, round numbers when he should have looked at actual post count ratios and based the new rankings on those. In my opinion, the top two rankings should currently be reached at either [35K and 50K] or [40K and 60K], with a preference for the former. Anything beyond those groupings is insanity. As for the rank name, “Just like Family” feels... off. For one thing, how does a person feel uneasy about eight stars but not capitalizing “like” doesn’t bug them? On a more serious note, I don’t feel particularly sentimental about people I don’t really even know, but I know plenty of others do and they might consider some of the regulars around here to be part of the PBS/GT “family”. Yet, how many of them would have that rank? Only Craig. Keeping with the household decor theme, perhaps something like “Antique” would be a better fit for the highest rank?

Anyone who manages to reach 100,000 posts without being staff should be sent an actual piece of furniture crafted out of retired PB servers.

My PB memory is rapidly fading... There was “Legend” at one point before it was changed into a member group, and I think it was at like 20K or something similar to that. I remember that it also felt absolutely ridiculous at the time.

I also think the last 2 member ranks were more of just adding them to have 10 ranks total whether it actually being accomplished by anyone. When I'm looking at it from my OCD it doesn't look bad following the 1,2,5 pattern. I vote for also changing the name to Antique!

Post counts just aren't as insanely and intensely meaningful as they were before I would also vote to change the number of stars on the tester ranks as well. I say give it 1 or 2 stars. Having as many stars as a "veteran" member just seems...odd. Since you can literally just join the testing rank. I bet less people would have them...

Part of the family imo should be around 1k posts just because it could make newer members feel less of themselves. But dont tempt admins, they could change your count to negative and then you'll be counted as like a living dead member. Which we should have I wont argue with that rank.
