Cloudflare blocking our photos

Cloudflare is causing us trouble at Vintage Trailer Talk. I am the owner.





Cloudflare is blocking our Flickr photos from being posted, ID: Cloudflare Ray ID: 5339cf3e9cfac9a9

Thanks for posting the Ray ID. ProBoards admins will be able to look into that and see if they can do anything for you tomorrow. They're back in the office after 5PM GMT so please do check this thread then.

In the meantime, does this only ever occur when trying to post Flickr images or have you encountered it on other occasions?

I've only tried Flickr images, as that is what most members use. We lost all our Photobucket photos when they wanted $400 per year to host URLs. Our board does not allow uploading from computers, only hosting from photo sites. The only one I have is Flickr.

That you are using Flickr may or may not be the source of the problem, I'm not sure. If I recall they don't particularly like users 'hotlinking' photos from their site and posting them on forums so whichever mechanism they have in place to prevent this might be a possible cause of the error although as I say I'm not sure. It can't hurt to try and eliminate this as a cause, though. Therefore I would highly recommend trying another host as soon as possible (https://vgy.me/ for example) to see if the problem occurs with them. 

Another thing that would be useful to know is at which point the errors occur, is it after you've clicked 'create post?'

Yes, after "create post" is clicked the post is blocked. It also happens in "messages" if you try to post a photo. I joined VGY.ME just now but not sure which URL to copy and paste. Will try below.

We lost our entire Vintage Shasta Forum here due to uploading direct from our computers; therefore went to hosting. I realize that URL linking is frowned on. I posted a photo 2 weeks ago from Flickr and now the same photo is blocked with the Cloudflare error and ID#.

Question: if Cloudflare is blocking the photos, how does that affect Flickr photos? Is there any way to find out WHY Cloudflare is blocking Flickr? Some sort of code embeded at Flickr??

Yeah, it looks like it might be the result of whatever Flickr are doing to prevent hotlinking then. I'm not exactly sure how it's done to be honest but my guess would be that Flickr likely has Cloudflare protection and has configured it in such a way that it picks up on and stops hotlinking. I'd proceed with using vgy.me for now or one of the other free hosts listed in this thread and see if that stops the errors.

I thought the issue was that Proboards is using Cloudflare and that the blocking was coming from here, since it happens only when you try to post.

To be honest, it could be either/or in this case The admins will be able to check that Ray ID to see if it's on the ProBoards end.

That sounds right to me. There could be a trigger string that proboards has defined which causes Cloudflare to go into block mode when you're attempting to post those links. idk.

Was a link to the image the only thing in the post? The block that was triggered should have absolutely nothing to do with a Flickr image.

Yes, the block was only on the photo. I tried several times. Text posts until you link the photo.

Is it just this one Flicker image that is blocked? I haven't experienced any issues testing this out on my test forum.
