Hi! Here on the Support Forum, I notice that when we post on the thread games, our count doesn't increase, so I wonder if it's possible to create a plugin where we may set the count differently for certain sub-boards by overriding the default = 1? Example: Leave the default score = 1 for thread games, then set the score = 2 for trivia/random topics and the score = 3 for 'serious' or 'deep' topics etc... This is an attempt to encourage our users to become more commited insted of just inserting a number or a single word each time they make a post. Thanks in advance!

The ability to disable post counts in specific board(s) is a software function that can be utilized on your own forum by simply going to Admin -> Structure -> Categories & Boards -> (edit board(s) in question). On the popup to edit a board's properties, go to the Settings tab and set Disable Post Counts to Yes. I am sure that is how the game boards are operating. As to whether or not a plugin can do what you ask, I shall defer to a coder.

Thanks, Kitty Katt, your suggestion is very helpful to understand how the system works. My main point is, however, not to disable the post count, but to give additional scores to specific boards as a bonus to creative members.

Tix MascotCould you perhaps use the Monetary Plugin to simulate this? You can set how many of X they earn on an individual sub-board/board basis, and you can name the "currency" anything you want. Therefore, you could remove post count entirely from your layout templates, and then replace it with the monetary code and name the monetary currency as "Post Count." It will tally up the exact amounts you want, then, and basically function exactly how you want it to, from what I gather.

Thanks for the interesting suggestion, ₪» ⅀ ƪ Ƒ «₪! Normally, that would have functioned, but now, there is a basic problem with that. You see, I already use the Monetary System for various purposes around the forum, like different bonuses for participation on this or that sub-board, along with donations, casino games and shop items. Everything is connected; and the sums in your profile show how much you have accumulated in your wallet and bank account. So how can we differentiate the posting without eliminating everything else? I'm afraid that calls for some serous recoding of the Monetary Plugin.

It's not possible to make the actual post count increase by more than 1 since that's hard-coded. But making a plugin that records a number and having that number increment by different amounts depending on where you post is pretty simple. However, if you want that number to be visible to everyone and not just the user it's tied to it'll require the plugin to use a super key which a forum can only use 2 of maximum when first created.

Does that mean that it's a waste of time to create such a plugin? I have already bought more plugin space/keys and they are actually cheap compared to other expenses I have promoting the forum, like business cards and free t-shirts, so for me, the extra super key is no problem. Thanks for the reply, Brian!

The plugin can do the math on page load and merge the number it records with the post count if that's your only concern.
Otherwise, I think the answer to that question is subjective. Some forums want certain features and others have absolutely no use for those same features.
