I got it for $1.29 today. I normally go to Speedway, but the BP station next door was $.03 cents cheaper. I’m not one to quibble over pennies when it comes to gas, but I was influenced by the novelty of getting the absolute cheapest I have seen around here.
The ancient pumps wouldn’t read my card, so I had to go inside. The guy asks how much it was going to be, but of course I didn’t know the final total beforehand since the instrument panel doesn’t tell an exact amount of gas in the tank and we’re talking about three digit precision on the fill rate. He told me to go back outside, he would turn on the pump, and then I could come back in and pay afterwards. I was struck by two realizations: a) they apparently didn’t have a way to prepay a variable amount from inside, just as one would if paying at the pump; b) this became a post-pay situation.
I don’t remember the last time I saw a post-pay fuel transaction. I‘be been driving since I was 18 and I can’t recall if there were any major stations that weren’t fully prepay by then. I remember them as a kid, but I’m not certain that I’ve ever had my own experience until today.

This thread is like a man winning a comb for a door prize, except he is bald!?!? But it makes for a great regiftable birthday or Christmas present! (...for someone you don't particularly like but feel obligated to send a gift to)
