For those of us in the US, it's an election year. Hard to imagine with everything else going on right now, but there will be a lot of people up for election this year, both at the state and federal levels. My question for everyone here: Have you ever run for office? I would be interested to know what position you ran for, how you did, and why you ran.

I have never run for office.
That said, I was the Elections Commissioner in college, in charge of everything having to do with the elections of the various student body positions. This involved a surprisingly large amount of work throughout the semester, from the day the candidates declared their intent to the counting of the ballots. Glad I did it, would never do it again!

I was nominated for student council in high school and college, but I never accepted the nominations. I didn't want the responsibility or the attention.

I haven't. I don't think I could do it. I like working behind the scenes. I've worked on some campaigns, including some leadership positions, and that's fun for me. I really enjoy politics. I just don't think I could ever be the one running lol.

I have never run for office and don't ever intend to. Politics is just not for me.

Coming from poverty you have a slick chance of running for presidency or any election as most elections run for millions+ I hear an average ad runs around 25k+ when it comes to election. It's sad some of the most wonderful people I know come from poverty. I'm not saying its impossible through sponsorships but you need some bank in order to make anything out of yourself, like I said not true for all as some high school drop outs are millionaires it's just the sad reality.

I had a great laugh about that. I ran for office in 2016. It was a local election for our County Supervisor position. I was unlikely to win as an Independent against a Republican and Democrat, but it was a fun experience. Politically minded or not, I think everyone should run for something at least once. It's good experience.

I haven't, but my husband has. He ran to get on the ticket for our town Alderman. I was with him every pain full step. It's a dirty, nasty business and I pray he never runs again.

I haven't, but my husband has. He ran to get on the ticket for our town Alderman. I was with him every pain full step. It's a dirty, nasty business and I pray he never runs again. Why dirty? I found that some people were rude overall, but that most people appreciated me running. I did a lot of door knocking and talking with people over the course of my campaign. I found it very enlightening. I still think everyone should do it at least once, especially for a public office of some sort. I think it can help understand people better.
