Μy webside developer fixed the problem with my e-mail address and I was able to access all my forums and change the password. You have a point, Kami. I didn't know it was against the rules. This person was kidnapped, hypnotized and drawn into satanistic rituals, so he's totally out of his senses now (attacking old acquaintances, getting drunk, breaking things, etc) so by "coming to his senses" I meant a total, supervised change. If this happens, maybe I could let him work on my computer without him knowing my password of course. I don't know how I can do this, but one thing is for sure, I don't have the energy or the time to rebuild a 5 year old forum and I won't give him the credit of having the forum threads appear under his name, if he rebuilds it under his own account. Does anybody have some advice? I'm just... gonna gloss over the backstory here since that's not relevant to tech support. Anyhow: No, that's still considered 'sharing' an account. This person will need their own account to help out in any fashion on your forum. If you do not trust him to handle the permissions he needs to create this content, and if you do not want threads and posts to be created under his account, then you should not have him helping you rebuild. Find someone who hasn't betrayed your trust and give them limited powers -- enough to help but not enough to cause serious damage to the forum. Help Guide Article: Preventing Content Deletion

I have owned a forum since 2011. I built it up myself, with input from other members, but none of them had permissions to change things on their own. In 2017, I added an admin to help me revamp the forum, due to my suffering some ill health. I trust this member to do the right thing, but he doesn't know my password, and I don't know his. I have the ultimate say-so on what changes are made. If I were in your situation, I wouldn't ask this fella to help, anymore.

I understand. As things are now of course I don't trust the guy. I never gave him my password, but he figured it out and hacked my forum (I had used his laptop in the past when my internet was down, so he probably had some clue about the kind of passwords I choose...).
Then I guess the best thing to do if he becomes trustworthy again in the future is to ask him make an account using my name but as a simple member, or something like that. Koalani's hacker could be a good idea... Of course I would check the posts.
I also read the article about how to prevent content deletion. I thought exporting contents to one´s computer was not allowed. That's what we were told when we made our first forum in Proboards.
Thank you all for your good advice!

Cracking (guessing your password) is not the same as hacking; it's a bit of a nit pick, but it's an important distinction to make as hack tends to have a wider consequence than one individual's password. You're correct re: exporting contents, but this is regarding posts / members / etc. Themes and plugins can be exported via the "export" button in the admin panel for these respective sections. You can also export your own posts & PMs. However, a mass export of all forum content is not allowed for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to the need to use a 3rd party tool to send heavy requests to the PB servers.

You received a lot of good advice in this thread. I just wanted to offer my sympathy regarding what happened to your forum. My only advice is to NEVER give anyone full administrative privileges. I would never give anyone the ability to make changes that I can't fix/undo. I trust my boyfriend with my life, but his powers on my forum are limited. Friends and loved ones make mistakes and do things out of spite. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Kami: It may be, but the result is the same.
Where exactly do I find the Export button?
bigballofyarn:Yeah, you're right, one never knows... Thanks for the advice.

You can find the Export feature by logging into your global account on ProBoards.com. Then going to Account>Account Settings>and then click on "Export" across from the Export Member Data row.

The end result, yes, but there is a noticeable difference: cracking means that an individual user's info was compromised due to weak password security, while hacking means that provider-end safety measures were breached. I understand the end result is the same, and I do not mean this as a 'you must get terminology correct' sort of response, but rather as a means to educate on the differences as the steps moving forward would be somewhat different in the event PB was ever compromised.

Kami: Not that the right terminology shouldn´t be used, that´s important too. But i get the difference as far as Proboards is concerned.
Michael: I went there, but my own forums don´t appear, just the one I´m a moderator in plus the Proboards support forum. When I was trying to fix the original issue I must have done something. Any clue?

I use two different addresses, but I couldn't find my forums in either of them. Could I have deleted my global account where my forums were? I mean is it possible to do that?

My alternate e+mail is {removed for privacy} The primary one is {removed for privacy} and I'm afraid it ahs stopped working again, as it's linked to my website which is old and it'll be some time till I get a new one... So I need a solution in order not to get shut out of my won forums. How can I change the e-mail address the forums are linked to?

hjordis, to change an email for your accounts you would do this by logging in to your global account at www.proboards.com. Under the blue Account dropdown at the top of the page, select Account Settings, then follow the directions under the Edit link. If you have more than one global account (email address on our service) you will need to do this for address you wish to change. Let us know if you have any questions.

I did that, but as I said only two forums appear there, the one I once posted in and the one I'm the moderator in. That e-mail address is the one that works, so I don't want to change it. The other one that needs changing doesn't appear in my global account. Yet my forums are linked to it. How is it possible?
