I made one for now until I get a proper one but only use it to go for a walk to keep my legs going and I hate sitting around indoors too long and have to go for a walk but I make sure if I stop and talk to a neighbour I keep my distance as I have asthma and COPD and a heart failure condition. I made this out of a hoodie hat I bought in a local shop for a £1, cut the top off, a little bit of stitching here and there and bingo...

My wife's friend in West Virginia made us some. I got basic blue, my wife got three in kind of a Victorian fashion and my step son got Snoopy themed. Was very kind of her to make them for us, and she picked the themes. I would have liked some blood stains on mine, but I'm not going to complain.

This laptop is playing up, had to delete my last post and re-post this one, I have ordered a mask now on-line for £3.98, the one I made kept slipping down and someone mentioned I looked like an old Wild West Outlaw with a mask on lol, the one I ordered also has 10 filters and is re-washable.

I (unfortunately) can't use a sewing machine worth my life, even thought I took a home economics class in high school. I tried doing the bandana method with rubber bands/hair ties, but the hair ties were too constricting around my ears, and the mask fell off my ears. So I did a tee-shirt mask... Using a Facebook tutorial that my mother found. It's hard to tie around your head, and honestly? It flops at the chin.
Ultimately, I bought a facemask from Threadless (they have proceeds going towards charity). So it's coming next week. It's kind of like the bandana, but with bigger elastics. So I'm going to try that to see how it works. It's probably going to be like the masks my mom and her husband use themselves: It'll probably fit better.

I tried doing the bandana method with rubber bands/hair ties, but the hair ties were too constricting around my ears, and the mask fell off my ears. Huh? Why wouldn’t you just fold the bandana in half, creating an upside-down triangle, and just tie it off behind your head—old west bandit style? Why introduce elastics into a straightforward concept? How does that even work? I just use a bandana in this manner at work. Of course, I’m not actually worried about protecting myself or others from the virus with this mask (because real talk: it probably won’t anyway), and it’s intended to maximize airflow (from beneath) while still appeasing statehouse and corporate whims. Still, it can be tucked into the shirt collar and be just as (in)effective as any other mask. Bonus: the bandana is an American flag and now my assistant manager calls me “cowboy”. I might start wearing a cowboy hat at work. For funsies. She doesn’t know what she’s started. I also bought a couple homemade masks (with filters) from a neighbor. It’s unlikely that I’ll use them much, if ever, but they appear to be of surprisingly good construction quality.

Because I bought a bandana that's a bit smaller, and knowing my luck, I'd be the one who loses their mask regardless and gets my workplace in trouble when it's time for me to go back.

OK, that’s fair. But how does it work? I mean, how do you use rubber bands or hair ties to hold it on? It all seems a bit convoluted and uncomfortable. BTW, I’ve heard of people using the head wraps that are sold in the same section as hair ties. They’re elastic enough to be held in place, you can’t lose them, because they’ll just fall down around your neck if anything, and I guess the fabric is extremely thin, so they don’t hamper breathing. I don’t know how effective they are from a public health sense, but if you’re looking for something just to use at work to meet minimum requirements, it might be worth considering.

I ordered some cotton masks/face covers last week, anticipating guidance being brought in for public transport over here. They won’t arrive until the end of the month, but there’s no way I’m interested in learning to make them and I won’t buy disposable surgical masks that really should be in the hands of health workers. Mine will be machine washable and I’ll wash after every trip out. Realistically though, I’ll be avoiding the places where I’d have to use one for the foreseeable future anyway. No chance I’ll be using public transport for the next few months. I won’t be wearing one for work since it isn’t currently recommended, but if I did then work would have to provide me with appropriate PPE. We try to stay 2m apart where possible though.

I wore a mask for the first time when I went to the hospital today for some tests. I have to say that I wish I'd brought my own. The first one they gave me wasn't stretchy enough—the moment I looped it over my second ear, my ear folded and it snapped me in the eye. I had three people watch me struggle with this thing for a bit before I meekly requested another. Maybe the mask was poorly made, maybe I just have a fat head or flimsy ears. Anyway, the second one worked great, but it was covered in Harley Davison logos. Not the statement I was trying to make.
I have a lot of friends making masks right now and it's been cool to see all the different designs. Now I've missed my one shot at making a mask-statement because I probably won't leave the house for another few months. Curses! Maybe next pandemic.

I mean, how do you use rubber bands or hair ties to hold it on? It all seems a bit convoluted and uncomfortable. The rubber bands/hair ties will eventually be used as the elastic around your ears, and keeps the bandana secure on your face. But that method didn't work out for me. The face covering I bought works a lot better.

I've been making masks. Tried three different ways to making them but only liked two of the ways. These are a few that I made. I used to do a good bit of sewing years ago until I worked in a curtain/drape factory and then lost all interest in sewing outside of work. LOL

There was an article at the Daily Mail website that gave photos and instructions on how to make a mask from a sock. I made one in about five minutes, following their instructions. Here is the link and photos:
