As with all things in life, there are good chiropractors and bad. I've seen one after my shoulder injury and got no relief whatsoever. I know others who have had great luck with them.
However, I once had an elderly patient who was seeing a chiropractor. The chiropractor had taken x-rays and was doing intense manipulation of her hip with no results. Turned out, she had a complete break of her femoral head from the femur!!!! After I did her scan, I told her it would probably be a good idea that she not see her chiropractor until she got the results of the scan. So...yeah.
Glad it's working for you.

I've found a good one. I've played sports as a kid, and my adult life of military and police work, with working out and ect. I've found it great for shoulder and neck pain. He's super professional and does xrays and other tests and will recommend a doctor when necessary.

You know what you call it when you take the good parts of chiropractic practice, the scientifically valid parts? That's physical therapy, given by a licensed physical therapist under a medical doctor's supervision.
Chiropractic was founded by a crank:
"chiropractic was not evolved from medicine or any other method, except that of magnetic."[1] He also "claimed that his profession had nothing to do with medicine, that he healed by the laying on of hands;"
and turned into a widespread business by his son, who readily admitted as much:
"His son, B.J. Palmer, asserted that their chiropractic school was founded on "...a business, not a professional basis. We manufacture chiropractors. We teach them the idea and then we show them how to sell it".[23] D.D. Palmer established a magnetic healing facility in Davenport, Iowa, styling himself ‘doctor’."
That's not even to mention the injuries and deaths caused by "adjustments" that can sever nerves and can cause blood clots and strokes.
They often don't fix anything, they just move it around a little, providing some temporary relief. Long term improvement often requires physical therapy and exercise to increase muscle strength- as it's often the muscles around an area that are deteriorated and can't hold things in place. Or, in a bad case, it may take an orthopedic doctor to give effective treatment.
The best thing you can get out of a chiropractic place is cheap Xrays. Just don't let them twist your neck or your wallet...

The stupid thing is that our Worker's Comp doctor for the hospital was a chiropractor. So, in order to comply with regulations after my on the job injury, I had to go see him for multiple visits. It was ridiculous. Only after 3 months of that, did they okay for me to go to physical therapy, and then after 3 months of that, then they okayed an MRI. The poor physical therapy people didn't even know the group of muscles that were injured until after 3 months of PT. They could only guess based on my symptoms. Ridiculous!!

I would have sent them an email, "can you send me, in writing, a letter confirming that you want me to go to a place that believes in 'magnetic healing powers' instead of a medical doctor and that you assume all malpractice liability?" Or I would have flat told them no and filed a complaint with the state.
I worked next to a chiropractor for a while. She kept bringing over these shake drinks for us to sample. I'm guessing she used her practice as a way to peddle MLM products. One time she offered a free or discount session in their brand new "magnetic healing chamber." Nice lady, but very kooky.

I visited a chiropractor for the first time last year. My back was hurting so much that walking or even getting in or out of bed was difficult. I lived with it getting progressively worse for months. Finally I decided to visit the chiropractor that one of my sisters went to years ago. I visited three times total and my back is so much better. I still occasionally get a stiffness in my back but not the pain that I had before.

It really depends on the situation on why someone should go to a chiropractor. There are some things that they can help with. For example, I have ankylosing spondylitis, and visiting a chiropractor every now and then helps with my back.

Though the standard of care over here is decent all-round...

I love my Chiropractor. He does the deep tissue manipulation and I feel really good afterwards. He also can bring me out of a migraine by stretching my neck.
He is also educated in nutrition. I went there about a 2 weeks ago and showed him my swollen ankle. He told me to do a 5 day fruit smoothie fast and I did. The next day the swelling started to go down and by 5 days it was completely gone. I added strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, large banana, 1 tbsp of cocoa, 1 packet of Stevia, couple cups of Flax milk or you can use Almond milk. He told me to stay away from dairy and fats. I also added cauliflower and broccoli each day. It's the best I have ever felt and gave me energy. I suspect meat and fat was causing the swelling. I'm not telling anyone to do this, it's just my share.
If I had gone to my Internal medicine doctor he would have written a prescription or called it in to take the swelling down. I felt like we got at the root of the cause with the smoothies.

^ just a heads up, if your swollen ankle wasn't due to an injury then it may be a sign of excess sodium, pre-diabetes, or other metabolic issue.
Highly highly recommend seeing a doctor, an internist or General Practitioner, if that continues. Those things can potentially be serious health issues, not something a smoothie can fix.
disclaimer- not a doctor, just well read. ask your doctor.

I've been to one good one and a few bad ones.
The good one lives three hours away, so it's rare I get to frequent him. My wife goes to a local one because she has better luck with them.

Thanks for your concern. I'm feeling great and no more swelling. I had an appt. set up with my Internal doctor soon.
