In your admin area, go to admin/themes/visual.
Pick the theme you need/want to alter in the selector marked "Current Theme" (about an inch from the top, to the left... once you select the theme you want to alter, by clicking on it in the list, it will load it. If it's your "default theme", then it's already selected and loaded ).
In the display box to the RIGHT, navigate to a "New Post" screen.
In the scrolling controls to the LEFT, scroll down to "Objects", then click on "Forms" when it appears, then click on "Text Fields" when it appears.
Several editable options will appear, the one you want is "Background Color".
There's a color-picker there. Pick the color you want (because you have the "New Post" page loaded in the window to the RIGHT, you will be able to see your color selection as it will appear).
When satisfied with your color selection, scroll down to the bottom and click on the "Save Changes" button

Having told you how to do it, my curiosity is killing me... why would you want to change that to black? Is your text default a light color that will show up well on black?

In the display box to the RIGHT, navigate to a "New Post" screen. In the scrolling controls to the LEFT, scroll down to "Objects", then click on "Forms" when it appears, then click on "Text Fields" when it appears. FYI, this is not necessary. The items that are bold (not gray) just represent the forum elements that are visible in the preview window. All Items in the Visual Editor are available and accessible at all times regardless if they appear to be grayed-out or not. Having told you how to do it, my curiosity is killing me... why would you want to change that to black? Is your text default a light color that will show up well on black? They are changing from black, not to black.

FYI, this is not necessary. The items that are bold (not gray) just represent the forum elements that are visible in the preview window. All Items in the Visual Editor are available and accessible at all times regardless if they appear to be grayed-out or not. I am aware that it's not "necessary" to do that to make the change. I just think it's a good idea to be able to see the change before you save it... just in case it's not quite what you thought you wanted. Less work do it my way than to change it, then go out and check, then come back and change it again, then go back out and check, et cetera. Having told you how to do it, my curiosity is killing me... why would you want to change that to black? Is your text default a light color that will show up well on black? They are changing from black, not to black. On the other issue... oops... I mis-read!

Nice people have helped me when I needed it, I'm just returning the favor and "paying it forward"! The best thanks you can give me is to help someone when you see that they need help that you can give!
