Hello! I’m having trouble color coding members names. I installed but then deleted the User Legend Blocks & it seems to still have those colors. & now I can’t change them. It kept my different blue color (bit darker than other members) & the stars colors. I also am having a hard time understanding the difference between Member Ranks & Member Groups as they both allow for stars to be changed colors.
Thank you!

Hi Member ranks are based on an individual's number of posts on a forum. Member groups, however, are groups that you can assign to people and are not based on post count. There are a number of reasons why you may want to utilise groups. Firstly, they allow you to give people powers on the forum. For example, the Administrator, Global Moderator, and Moderator groups are the default groups on the forum when it is created. These groups allow the individuals in them to utilise the powers assigned to those groups. Another thing people use groups for is to restrict access to certain areas of the forum to specific. You could create a board on your forum that you only want some members to access. You could create a group and assign it to those members and then only allow that group access to the board. RPG forums make good use of the groups to sub-divide the members in to clans, or houses, for example. You should be able to change the colours and stars in your themes: admin > themes > manage themes > click on theme to edit > groups and ranksIf you run in to problems, let us know.

Thank you for the explanation re: ranks/ groups. Makes more sense now. Okay, the stars are the right colors & right amount. But the individual members are still default. I’m trying on just one theme, Default. Mine, Admin, I’ve tested out several colors & it changes it each time when I refresh the page. New & Junior Members I’ve done the same thing & they don’t change. If it does it on one, it should do it on the others. I tested it on another theme & get the same thing. Changes Admin fine but just keeps default colors for other members. If this works, how do I do the other themes w/o manually putting the colors in? I see Export but only says Export to Computer & Export to PB Library.

Our desktop that I use is Windows 8.1. We have a laptop with Windows 10 & I have the same problem. Changes Admin just fine but all others are still Default colors. Laptop I tried out 2 themes. Desktop I tried 2 different browsers.

To check i am understanding. Are you trying to change the name colour, for example my name here is orange, for each of the ranks?
If so, that is not possible i'm afraid. You can change the colour of all the members [ that aren't in a group ] as one, but not different based on what rank they are in.

That doesn't make sense tho. I've been to at least one forum where each Member Rank becomes a different color as they move up in posts. Like mine on that board is now its 3rd color as I made more posts. Then how does the Group colors change? Especially when the members are labeled i.e. New Member, Junior Member, etc.

From that page I clicked on Member Groups, Admin is not a color here. So why would there be TWO places to do colors?

ZandraJoi, Both images are for groups, not ranks. The first image allows you to change the group color on a theme-by-theme basis if you want it different than the default. The 2nd image is where you're setting the default colors for the groups. Neither alters colors for ranks. If you go to Admin > Members > Member Ranks, you'll see that there are no colors associated with different ranks - there's just settings for the stars for each rank.

I understand that however how do forums change the colors of their members based on RANKS? When their members move up in posts, their name becomes a different color. For GROUPS, I set colors, so why do they not change? Only one that can change is Admin.

For GROUPS, I set colors, so why do they not change? Only one that can change is Admin. The only group on your forum which has any members assigned is the Administrator group. Therefore, regardless of the color settings for other groups, there are no members in those groups which will display those colors. I understand that however how do forums change the colors of their members based on RANKS? When their members move up in posts, their name becomes a different color. It is not possible to change the color of display names according to rank through any settings in the Admin panel. However it might be possible there is a plugin which allows display names to have different colors according to rank. If you can provide a URL to a forum which has different colored display names according to rank, we could look at the page source and maybe determine which plugin is accomplishing this.

Been trying to work on this. Unless I have to, I prefer not to do each theme. I tried: Admin- Members- Member Groups. Then Individual member- Edit Profile- Staff Options- Manage Groups- Add this member to a group. I tested on 2 people. New Member Group & Junior Member Group & the name colors change but the stars go away.
Is there something else I need to do for this:
Admin- Members- Member Ranks- I have the same color stars that I do on the Member Groups.

Tested out a few themes. Default No star but Yes to color. 4 other themes Yes stars & Yes to colors. 1 theme Yes star but No to color.
I made sure for Default the Theme colors/ stars in : Themes- Theme Manager- (Default theme)- Groups & Ranks Matches : Admin- Members- Members Groups
Which overrides which?

I understand that however how do forums change the colors of their members based on RANKS? When their members move up in posts, their name becomes a different color. It is possible that they have created groups that look like ranks and are manually assigning them to members. But each time someone reaches one of the rank mile stones, you would have to manually change their group. Is it possible you could link to a profile of one of the members in a group you have set the colour for, and perhaps Scott could see why the colour if not changing

Gotcha! Understand that part.
It's in themes. i.e. Default doesn't show stars but will honor the colors. Ebony Tulips was not working but now it's ok for one & not another member. All themes are correct besides those 2. So I'm guessing it's something in the themes themselves.
