In the state capital that is the closest to me, the capital building had spray paint literally all over the outside, where the police weren't standing at, to block the rioters from entry. Ofcourse, not to mention the businesses that were looted and destroyed, and the numerous people (including over 20 police), being admitted to the hospital for people throwing glass bottles and bricks at them.
This whole thing sickens me. I know protesting is a right, but when it goes to assault, looting, destruction of public and private property and other inane actions shouldn't ever be tolerated.

This is a problem all over the world, peaceful protests are infiltrated by extremists etc for their own gains like riots and then they can loot, injure and turn the peaceful protest into mayhem, to be honest, I don't think Bush cares about the current riots and is saying to others "just forget about this, it will all blow over and we will continue on like before".

When I went to my high school reunion, I looked around the table at my lifelong friends and suddenly came to the realization that the majority of those at that table were of different heritages and races. It could have been very different. During my youth, I was surrounded by very closed-minded individuals, but I moved out earlier than most and discovered that 99.9% of the population are good, loving people, who have the same hopes and desires that I did, to be loved and respected. I once had a patient, after I went into the waiting room to tell him that we were running behind and that I hadn't forgotten about him, tell his wife, when he though I was out of earshot, "she treated me like a white man." It broke my heart. I find it gut-wrenching that many in our society STILL can't get rid of their narrow-minded ideals and realize that, at the core of our beings, we are all the same.

I know protesting is a right, but when it goes to assault, looting, destruction of public and private property and other inane actions shouldn't ever be tolerated. I think most if not all of us share the same sentiment. But saying something should never be tolerated is quite different from being able to prevent it or deal with it. We train our law enforcement officers and put them in uniform to identify their authority to uphold the law. We even arm them. But when the rioters have superior numbers, enforcing the law becomes a very difficult proposition. There are limits to the amount of force a police officer can use and that limit changes drastically depending on whether the crimes are related to property or human life.

Protests started in Portland where I live on Friday. On Friday night I watched my current city burn live on the news( many businesses were broken into, robbed and then set on fire; people were hit by cars Etc. Saturday wasn’t nearly as bad and by Sunday the number of protesters was in the thousands in my city and they started literally a block away from my house. Sunday night and last night promoted extremely peaceful protests. Groups of people who were not part of the marches started destroying things, setting fires, throwing things at police, etc. started after the main groups had dispersed and were heading home.
Protests, demonstrations and the likes are both warranted and a part of our rights as US citizens. Regardless of what the protest is about, so long as it remains peaceful it doesn’t bother me that they are going on.
I’m he pain, grief, and hatred that started this whole thing is 110% understandable. What happens in our communities doesn’t just affect those that it happens to but many others if not everyone around them. What happened to George Floyd was wrong, period. The only way things will change and this racism and bigotry will end is if people stand up together and make their voices heard. I stand by the peaceful protesters 110%. They should keep doing what they’re doing. Just my opinion though.

Often this results in chaos and confusion as to who was breaking the law. The best advice to anyone peacefully protesting is to go home early when there is a curfew in place, as the rioters tend to be more active after dark.
