I have been in business for myself for a long time, even though the company that I have has changed what it does over the years to better reflect my talents and education. Currently, I have been in the same business realm for over a decade and my private company follows suit in that. I do community and economic development, which is something every community needs.
It got me thinking today as I worked on it, I wonder how many business owners there are at Proboards. Do you own your own business? What is it? Have you in the past? What did you do?

Jim and I owned an art gallery in WA state years ago and did very well until the people from whom we were leasing decided not to renew our lease and give the space to the chamber of commerce. The irony of it still gets me, even today. We had 30 local artists in that gallery.
I've had a portrait/wedding photography business in the past, but now all I have are my etsy shops.

I do. I finally incorporated myself into an S-Corp at the beginning of this year thanks to our lovely law makers in CA.
I specialize in live sound production, meaning: Concerts, Corporate shows, and HOW venues. I also handle RF coordination from time to time, usually if the show has over 20+ frequencies that need to be dealt with.
I've been doing this my whole life. I use to work for a very large company and a Church on the West Coast before freelancing, then ultimately incorporating.
Definitely the wrong year to incorporate. Oh well..

Not as tough where I live, but definitely not the year to hit it hardcore.

I had my tax guy set it up for me, but it was, whoosh! $1,500 right out the window cause the business means nothing to me at the moment. lol If CA had not signed AB5 into law, I wouldn’t ever had to deal with it and could’ve remained 1099 with all the various companies I work with throughout the year. Haha Wouldn’t have pulled the trigger this year if I knew I wasn’t going to work past February.

So many have stepped back that I thought I would try stepping up. No results yet.

No, but, one of my colleagues is encouraging me to resign and start a consulting business. My current company I work for, makes a bucketload off of the licenses I have. I'm on Disability right now while recovering from my surgery. They're still advertising my license and selling things, and pretending I'm there, LOL.

I wonder what businesses those that said yes, but didn't reply, have.

Do you own your own business? What is it? Have you in the past? What did you do? Although I might have technically been correct to say 'Used to', I voted 'No'. My own businesses have never been my primary source of income. I did include profits from my businesses on my income tax returns, though. What did I do?While in high school, I repaired electronics. Primarily guitar amplifiers and also some televisions, radios, and household appliances. This was strictly word-of-mouth. No advertising or even business cards. Later, I was a partner in a local recording studio. Much later, I had a DJ/KJ business, for parties, weddings, and other events.

My business isn't my main source of income either, but I still own and operate a business. So side hustle or not, you still owned one.
