Signatures don't appear on mobile devices? Essentially ... that is correct. Someone using a mobile device can switch to Desktop mode, but in the case of small screens such as phones, that results in text that is tiny and hard to read. The Mobile Version of ProBoards is stripped down to the basics to minimize data usage and avoid clutter requiring excessive scrolling. Contents of Headers and Footers aren't displayed. Miniprofiles have only the most necessary information. Signatures don't appear. Navigation is via a dropdown rather than the Navigation Bar.

I honestly don't mind deleting forums and resetting them. I do this only if i have been trolled and wish to start again.

A thought that I have, It does get annoying when someone starts a forum over and over so maybe Proboards should start charging their members, maybe after the second time of deleting then a charge should occur.

That certainly would prevent a lot of deletions I would think @stormcloud70!

Many people enjoy the actual building of a forum, the themes, the look, but not so much the actual running of one. They get discouraged that they have only one member after a month, even though their forum concept is an already oversaturated genre. I completely agree with this. Sadly, I've seen it happen a lot. They'd come up with a forum idea and are dedicated to creating it, then if it's not popular and active within a month (or sometimes even a few weeks) they delete it and start over with a different idea. I think if you're not careful, you can also develop a reputation for this - making it even harder to gain members as everyone's going to think "what's the point? They'll just delete it in a month anyway."Maybe the site creation and brainstorming is just fun. Maybe they don't understand exactly what goes into making a forum successful and how to bring in members. Or maybe they just get discouraged easily, so decide to quit instead of figuring things out and putting the work into it. It's a shame, really. While it's true that sometimes a certain idea/concept or genre just doesn't work out - if it happens over and over... something's got to change. A new approach, better understanding of how forums work, etc. It's like that quote from Albert Einstein - "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Not sure about the insanity part, but it's what comes to mind.

It takes so much time building a forum and people expect it to work straight away. I agree Water Crystals like I said I think ProBoards should charge after the member has deleted the forum twice. It does give the admin a bad reputation deleting all the time.

Does anyone want to start a forum with me or need a forum moderator? Hi, This doesn't appear to be the appropriate place for this question as it has nothing to do with the topic/discussion taking place in this thread. I would suggest starting your own forum by yourself first and then advertise your forum on one of the advertisement boards. Those who join your forum may then eventually become good candidates to start a forum with in the future, or potentially add them to staff on your forum. We actively discourage people from making people they do not know forum moderators. I suggest contributing to threads here on General Talk and making some friends and build rapport with other users.

I've seen forums deleted many times and it does get discouraging to see this happen especially when we take the time to post and become an active member and then all posts are lost. All of our dedication and the time we take to help make their forums active is all "lost." I would be interested to read some of the tech Admins comments on how they feel concerning restoring a lot of forums? If they can comment.

I've only ever deleted one main forum - and that was back in the early days of ProBoards. Plenty of test boards that were no longer needed, yes. Any other main boards I've ran that have either not worked out or ran their course I've just kept in maintenance mode - because, well you just never know when there might be a resurgance. I've tended to make message boards that were always been closest to my innterests though rather than go for somethinng generic, that way I'm more invested in them as I have a passion for that subject.

I have to agree with the enjoyment of building a forum. I describe it as a ‘new toy’. All nice & shiny. Then they get tired of playing with it. Some don’t know what it means to be an admin. I’ve been on those before! They cared more for the quantity of members & posts. They may not even be there & let it run rampant. Discouragement. People expect to make a forum & members to just come their way. If I write something on a forum that I’d like to keep, I copy it over to Word. Just in case the forum or thread is deleted.

I've had a handful of forums over the years, but one main one. The others were deleted because they weren't as successful as my main one, and I didn't want to take time away from my main forum to try to boost the failing ones. I imagine people have similar experiences?

I used to do this quite a bit when I was younger and didn’t know the first thing about properly running a forum.
If I were to open a new one now, I’d probably do a better job at it. I just don’t have the energy to do it. It’s a lot of work.
