Hi
kayren , since you're new to the world of forums, you're likely to need assistance on several issues in the near future. Let's get you off to a great start in regards to the process of asking for help on the Support Forum.
We have several categories, each with a number of boards dedicated to specific types of help. But when it comes to basic forum operations and the use of your Admin panel and the various settings, the Support Board is usually where you want to ask.
I'd suggest reading the
Forum Rules as well as the board-specific rules for the Support Board:
Support Board Rules (Posting Guidelines)The concepts outline there are very useful. From things like using a descriptive thread title, to confining your questions to a single issue (or a few very closely related issues), these will guide you in a path which will be more efficient in getting you the highest quality help you deserve. You can and should make separate threads for unrelated issues. This insures that it will be clear when each issue has been resolved.
Also, you might benefit from the
Help Guide Articles Index. It's not meant to
replace the personal interaction of making threads for specific issues, but it can be a great way to begin the learning process and outline some of the details on certain issues.
I think we should deal with a some of your questions here in this thread. For others, I would encourage you to create a new thread or threads.
I have recently created a forum, but I am at a loss at what I am doing. I have tried to add a theme and skin but haven't had any luck. I am so new to all this. I am not sure how to add a graphic of my own to my new forum to personalize it.
kayren , there are two ways to add new themes to your forum. You can download a theme to your computer, either from a library item or from a file someone has attached to a post, then import it to your forum.
The other way is to log into your own forum, then navigate from your Admin panel:
Admin Home> Themes> Theme LibraryIf you take
this path and find a theme you'd like to try in the library, there will be an
Install button to the right of the Download button. By clicking the
Install button, the theme will be directly installed without the need for the multi-step process of downloading, then importing the downloaded file through your Theme Manager.
If you would like the new theme to be used by all guests who visit your forum, you can accomplish that by use of your Theme Manager.
Admin Home> Themes> Theme Manager
If you hover over the name of the desired theme, the words
Make Default will appear. Click on those words and your desired theme will now be set as the forum default.
Please let me know if you are successful with this or if you need additional assistance on this issue.I am not sure how to add a graphic of my own to my new forum to personalize it.
I suppose we could also deal with this related issue right here in this thread.
Each theme has an array of images associated with it.
You can access these by navigating from your Admin panel:
Admin Home> Themes> Theme ManagerHover over the name of the desired theme and several buttons will appear.
Click the button marked:
Images and a new page will appear.
You can upload an image from your computer for use on your theme through this panel.
What sort of image would you like to upload? Perhaps a Forum Logo which will reside in the banner area of your forum and replace the text for the Forum Title?
Or is there some other use you have for your image or images?
and also how to add categories and forums to my new place. I also noticed that my name didn't fit I had to abbreviate it what did I do wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated and needed. Thank you.
To keep this thread from getting too cluttered with multiple issues, would you be willing to create a new thread for this on the Support Board of this forum?
I'd suggest titling it something like: How do I create new Categories and Boards?
