I've already gotten my regular flu shot and at my age ... I don't have much to loose by getting a covid vaccine. I was on the waiting list through my work, same as every year, but I have just been told I'm off the waiting list cause I'm not in the red zone. The one year I didn't get the shot, I had the flu so I've always had it since then and now cause there's not enough flu shots I won't get it. On the other hand, we're in lockdown and only allowed to see 1 person, so if this lockdown continues, there's probably no one I could get it from.
We get our flu shot every year but I didn't know that there was a problem this year with being able to get one. I'm not going to say whether or not I've ever gotten the flu 'cause that would be inviting disaster! But I would get the COVID shot if it meant everything could go back to 'normal'! I haven't been able to see my mother since March and I don't see things getting better since with this next wave.

Just inject the vaccine into my veins. I'm with you...but enough people have to step up to make it worth while don't you think?

So yeah, it probably means the virus won't be eradicated. But at least those of us smart enough to get vaccinated will be okay. I guess the others... Well that's their problem.

But at least those of us smart enough to get vaccinated will be okay. I guess the others... Well that's their problem. Even if 100% of the US population is vaccinated, we won't be able to eradicate the virus. It has spread to all corners of the world. But if the vaccine is reasonably effective (and early test results suggest that it is) it will offer protection for a huge number of people at least for the time while the antibodies are present in them. And in turn lessen the spread. I reckon even the anti-vax extremists will take a less militant stance on this vaccine. JMO.

I read that here in the UK only a third will get it anyway - the elderly and vunerable, those working in the health industry etc and those with long-term medical issues. Even if I can I won't until it's been fuly tried, tested and proven with no other visable risks as others have also said.

I voted no originally, because I figured I’d get it eventually. It was really only a matter of time.
Back in September, I did end up with the virus. Wasn’t much more than seasonal allergies and for 4 days I thought that’s what it was. Just a mild sore throat and I was exhausted, sleeping about 15 hours a day for a week. 7 weeks later, I still can’t taste, but I’ve been fine other wise.
Today, I read a NYT article that was saying those of us who have recovered have a pretty good chance at being long term immune. So with that, I still will not get the vaccine when it comes out.

Now that the UK is just about ready to put its vaccine out to the public, and the USA is a close second (I assume that that means front line workers, etc) I thought I would bump this thread to see if anyone has changed their minds about getting this.
*darned auto-correct.

I've seen nothing about long term immunity. Can you post the article here? Never mind I found it...https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/17/health/coronavirus-immunity.html It's a shame that my BiL never lived through it to get immunity. I'm curious, you said it was like a seasonal allergy -did you get tested? Why did you get tested if it seemed like such a minor illness? Can you taste now? I guess losing your taste buds will do a lot for keeping one's weight down!

Yes I was tested a few days after I noticed I could no longer taste anything. I had to get tested after the loss of taste due to my wife's job, otherwise I probably would've left it alone. It's been about 9 or 10 weeks now and I still can't really taste anything but really sour or really sweet things. It's steadily improving though...

Even Dr. Fauci said that people will still need to wear a mask and social distance because it still will be needed.

Yes, social distancing and other measures will still in be in place for quite a while after the vaccine is released. Eventually it will have an effect on the number of people needing hospitalization though, so it is the road to normality...it’s just a long road.
I’m expecting to be vaccinated this side of Christmas, hopefully!

I just found out last night that I've been exposed (via my husband via one of his students)...we shall see. At this point, I don't know what is going to be asked of me.

I hope you don't get it, or it'll just be mild.
Last week I read that if 80% of the people get vaccinated, and since it's only 75% affective, only 55% of the population will be safe.
Over here still a lot of people don't want to get vaccinated.
I'm sticking with my original post, by the time I'll be able to get vaccinated, we'll know more about the side affects and I'm gonna trust the scientists. I'm not a risk factor, so I'm assuming it'll be a while before I'll get an invite.

Thanks - but I'm not going to get too worried about it. My husband has to go get tested and then I'm sure I'll have to. I'm just worried about losing my sense of smell and taste~! I think if I didn't already have a fairly serious heart condition, I would just seldf-quarentine and let what happens happen. The regular flu shot isn't 100% effective but it is still better than nothing. There are a lot of people in the USA that do't want the shot, but then they will just have to deal with whatever happens. Unfortunately, so will the rest of us!
