Hi there, I have purchased ad free on a rolling basis for forum.retro-rides.org and recently renewed in March (due to card expiry) Today it is showing proboard ads and says: Ad-Free Pageviews This MonthUsed Pageviews: 0 | Available Pageviews: 0 | Maximum Pageviews: 0
|
If I go to purchase more ad-free it tells me : Attention: This forum already has one or more Ad-Free subscriptions. You will be charged monthly for this subscription in addition to your existing Ad-Free subscriptions. Any ideas?

Hi Hotwire I will tag Scott so he sees this topic when he gets online. In the meantime, underneath the adfree pageviews this month information, does it show your subscription at all, or is it blank?

See attached. It seems to say I've used up my 5mil since it renewed a few days back, which I didn't spot earlier. Checking my stats: 08/05/2020 | 1,935,906 | 1,936,848 | 289 | 8 | 16 | 08/04/2020 | 1,451,585 | 1,452,460 | 251 | 13 | 5 | 08/03/2020 | 731,036 | 731,850 | 184 | 14 | 14 | 08/02/2020 | 198,935 | 199,782 | 237 | 14 | 4 |
08/01/2020 | 113,379 | 114,261 | 221 | 11 | 5 | 07/31/2020 | 80,491 | 81,244 | 274 | 11 | 5 | 07/30/2020 | 80,033 | 80,730 | 209 | 16 | 2 | 07/29/2020 | 83,686 | 84,393 | 221 | 12 | 4 |
Seems to imply that I've gone from an average around 80,000 (with occasional >100k peak) requests t nearly 2 million in the space of 4 days. Now I've been working on growth over the past few weeks, but with the best will in the world I don't think I've been that successful ... or I'd have noticed in my own ad revenue haha. Attachments:

That is certainly a sizable increase. I see that it lists 10,000 guests in the past 24 hours. That is a lot based on a normal 80-90 thousand average pageviews. Is it possible that the site has been linked to, and is getting a lot of click-thrus?
Does your google stats reflect a similar increase?

Does your google stats reflect a similar increase? No, it is showing around 5k user average for the last week. Does it break it down by day? Even at 5k, that would mean an average page click of 16 per user to get to 80,000.

The only other thing i can think of it bots, which google wouldn't necessarily pick up. The staff will be online from 17:00. Hopefully they can explain the jump, or correct it if it is wrong. If you would like to check back shortl after that time, there will hopefully be a reply.

Any more thoughts on this, it is rather vexing.

Hi,
It appears you still have an active ad-free subscription that has been disabled. If you go to Admin>Upgrades>Ad Free you should be able to re-check the box to the left of the ad-free subscription and re-activate your ad-free.
In regards to the increase in traffic, I personally don't have any explanation for you but I will make inquiries with the systems team if they see anything unusual.

Hi,
I checked with the systems team and they took a closer look. All of the increase in traffic is coming from what looks to be (from every metric we can see) legitimate Google bots. These bots do appear to be unusually high in volume though, have you added any JavaScript or ad codes or anything recently?

Yesterday has eaten all remaining ad-free I have apparently: Date | Pageviews | Forum Requests | Posts | Threads | Members |

So I'm back to no ad Free, which is quite annoying as I spent £300+ on it just a few days ago and these aren't real people viewing my content and adverts, so it isn't like I've had an explosion of activity where I can offset the extra cost of forum hosting with my own revenue. This seems more than a little unfair to be honest as I've got no way of knowing where this traffic is coming from, it certainly isn't reflected in my own Google Analytics. I've not done many changes recently, moved over to Google AdManager rather than AdSense, but is just trafficking AdSense still. Removed Ebay Epnt which I was experimenting with (spoiler alert: it wasn't very good). Chatted to Viglink/Sovrn a bit about what is going on with ebay revenue (this the epnt experiment), but I don't think that materially changed anything on the site... and that is kind of it.

How about disabling ad-free for guests? Admin > Upgrades > Ad-Free > Settings Remove Ads For Guests - NO!

It is possible that some part of Google AdManager was checking for something that was supposed to be present on the page. You may want to set up and verify the domain to look up the info in Google's crawl stats for your domain, we can also do this for you if it isn't something you want to look into for yourself.

Looks like Google crawling is the issue. So you're counting a google crawl against ad-free? Attachments:
