Hi there!
I know that the following idea has been bandied about a bit at different times over the years but I can't find one that's more recently answers, nor a plugin in the current library, so I hope I'm not repeating something here... but...
I know that people can share content from proboards onto social media platforms using the Link Post button under the settings drop down but I was wondering if it's possible to create a plugin that gives you specific share buttons at the bottom of each post? And then would post that content to Facebook or Twitter or whatever like a normal shared article/content?
Thinking of all the features/bonuses you could have with something like this, the required/preferred features (in order of necessity) I think would be...
((PS - I don't do this kind of coding and I have no idea if any or all of this is possible, so apologies if this is all horrendously newcomer/ignorant of me...))
--- the share links for each of the classic social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and anything else you can think of), being beneath each individual post. When a user clicks it, it is shared to their own account on that social media platform like a normal article or content might normally appear on their site (if this requires some form of back end posting template so that the content can then appear a certain way on the social media platform, I can work with this).
--- having these share buttons work for Guests as well as Members would be brilliant.
--- having the plugin be able to have some kind of checkbox system where you decide which social media shares you wish to be available. I.e. you might not want your content on Instagram so you de-check the Instagram box in the plugin settings and the Instagram share button disappears from under posts.
--- when the content is shared to social media, your own account on that social media platform being tagged would be a great benefit. So, maybe a box in the plugin settings, next to that checkbox. You tick Instagram because you want that to be an option and then you put @yourhandle in the box next to it, so that when someone shares that content, "@yourhandle" is the first thing in the message they are posting so that you get a tag on Instagram so you can see someone shared a thing from your site?
--- having the images for these share buttons being customisable would be a great bonus.
--- if it can be interactive with how many "shares" something has had that would be even better. Like how the Facebook share button often has the little grey window next to the blue share button telling you how many times its been shared.
--- but the REAL bonus would be setting that number of shares to only appear if it's over a certain number? Like, showing off that your post has had 3 shares ain't so great - ignorance is bliss on that one. but showing off it's had 3,000 shares is definitely worth shouting about, you know?
--- even bigger bonus would be, if the share button could change if the shared number is showing. So, I would envision it being the case of = IF this post has been shared less than 100 times, show X image url as the share button and nothing else. OR if it's been shared OVER 100 times, show Y image url as the share button instead and then next to it display the exact number of shares in THIS customizable div element. before the next social media platform's share button.
Best list I can come up with for social media or content platforms that people might want to integrate would be:
- Facebook (groups, pages and profiles)
- LinkedIn
- Twitter
- Pinterest
- Tumblr
- Instagram
- Slack
- Monday.Com
- Discord
- LiveJournal
- Wordpress
- GoodReads
Like I said, not all of this is necessary, I just figured I would put this out there with the most features ideas I can come up with that I or other people might find useful. If someone could do even half of this that would be amazing <3
