Forum URL: enneaforum.freeforums.netIt seems it is only possible to change the display name and not the.user name on proboards. But when you tag soneone you have to know their user name. Why isn't the tag name the same as the display name? How can people be expected to know two names for one member?

You should be able to type the display name in the tag member search and it comes up with users that have a username having absolutely no resemblance to what you typed making it obvious it also searches via display name. I could type "scot" for example here on the support forum and it comes up with @ socalso as one of the found members If it is not doing that on your forum then it might be worth asking for a member search reindex. Hover over a display name and you get the taggable username. Hold ALT key on keyboard and left click with mouse and name is placed in quick reply for easy tagging

Click on the display name, it takes you to the profile. The username is there, and the one you need to tag with @username

You're right, and now I see it also shows the user name on the members list. But people don't realize that and I'm trying to make one member generally and easily taggable.

So basically you can get the 'taggable username' by hovering or by going to profile or members list. But still people tag with the display name and often just leave it that way when it doesn't go through, may not even notice. Wouldn't it be better to just use the display name for tagging?

Also, display names can be changed whereas usernames cannot. Imagine trying to tag someone by their display name, then that person changes their display name. That user would no longer be tagged. By having tagging work off of the person's username, they can still tag them and have it display their current display name - even if the person changes their display name. They would still be tagged.

Hi roshanMany of the details regarding tagging have already been covered in this thread. There is also a Help Guide article with additional information on tagging: How to Tag Members

Thanks a lot. This was all very helpful but there is def a problem with the tagging of the members who have changed their screen name. The bubble with the general user name doesn't pop up so could that please be fixed.
Also and more pressing the search engine has always been a little iffy but now it just doesn't seem to be showing any relatively recent posts at all. Again it's enneaforum.freeforums.net.
Thanks!

you can also alt click a member's name and it will populate their @ in the quick reply.
