Some visitors leave my forum, because they don't understand, they have to click-tap "General Discussion" first. I want to have my thread-list visible, directly when visitors come to my forum. Can it be done? Thanks!

sergenl, the structure of the forum is categories > boards > threads > posts. Threads cannot reside outside of a board, and likewise boards cannot reside outside of a category. The most you can do is to: - Create a custom page (Admin > Structure > Custom Page) - Add the Recent Threads widget - Set the custom page has the Home page. For those visiting the forum via desktop, they will see a list of the most recent threads. (Currently mobile users will not see this.)

That was VERY helpful Scott! I lóve clear and short explanations! (and fast!) Thanks for thinking and writing!
I did not decide to add a custom page with the Recent Posts Widget. The problem is on smartphones, not so much on desktops.
Yet I still don't quite understand: Did you mean 'categories' on MY forum? Then there could be two solutions: 1. Rename "General Discussion". 2. Create a new category with a customable name like "Enter Board" (in my language). Set it as Home page. Delete the catagory "General Discussion", or make it invisible to visitors. This may be helpful for new visitors. Can it be done?

Hi,
Your first idea (renaming the category) would work just fine.
However for your second idea, you couldn't set a category as a Home page. The only pages that can be set as a Home page are Custom Pages. Categories are required and can't be hidden unless you're content with also hiding all of their contents (boards, threads, etc).

sergenl, Relating to your other thread: Remove "Welcome guest. Please Login or Register", I mention the option of disabling the mobile view. if you do this, the custom page set as the home page will display for all users desktop and mobile. This comes with the same caveat that not all users may be a fan of being forced to desktop view on a mobile device.

.. Your first idea (renaming the category) would work just fine. DONE! :-) (and Thanks!!) I changed "General Discussion" to: "Entrance to the Board" And the description to: "No Registration or Login required." That should be clear enough. Problem solved! :-) I found out, where it could be changed. For other readers: Login as Admin > Home Page > Menu Bar > Admin > Structure > Categories & Boards > Button Settings next to the name. You can rename "General Discussion", ánd the description under it. Note: I had to change "Name" AND "Display Name".
