Good day,
Is there a way in which to restrict Guests from downloading attachments?
Therefore, Guests can views threads and posts, but cannot download attachments.
Thanks

Hi @mres335 Guests are unable to download attachments or see the full-sized image if the attachment is an image. They can only see is the thumbnail.

Retread,
Thanks for the reply...much appreciated.
I have inserted a Google drive link and Guests are able to download that content.
I would like to restrict this usage.

Hey @mres335 A link is not the same as an attachment. I don't think there's a way to prevent guests from accessing links in posts via any setting in your Admin panel. If you want to prevent guests from seeing ALL links in posts, you could add this to the bottom of your Forum Wrapper layout template: {if $[current_user.is_guest]}<style>.message a[href]{display:none;}</style>{/if}

@mres335, just an fyi that Retread's solution will not currently work for those on a mobile device. Google Drive does offer sharing restrictions. Have you explored that option?

Scott,
Yes I have...it appears to be somewhat convoluted.
My only real option is to make the entire forum private...which is what I prefer.
Thanks again for your assistance...very much appreciated.

Retread,
Would you be so kind as to tell me specifically where in the wrapper to place this text?
{if $[current_user.is_guest]}<style>.message a[href]{display:none;}</style>{/if}
For example...here is what I have:
$[header]
<div id="content" role="main"> {if $[notice]} <div class="container"> <div class="title-bar"><h2>$[notice.title]</h2></div> <div class="content pad-all cap-bottom"> $[notice.message] </div> </div> {/if} $[content] $[shoutbox] </div>
$[footer] </div> {if $[is_mobile_browser]} <br /><p class="center mobile-view-prompt">Switch to the $[mobile_switch_link].</p> {/if} </body> </html>
Thank you so very much for your assistance...much appreciated as always.

Good day,
I think that I may have an interesting "work-around" for linked downloads...
1. I create a text file that has the URL to the file download. 2. Insert that text as an attachment. • Can use the same filename as the download, and so on.
What do you think?

That would go just above the </head> tag in the forum wrapper.
It depends what your goal is. If you don't want them to access the content of the download, then that isn't really a workaround as they would still be able to download the text and then grab the url to the download.

Hi You are requested to create your own thread for your issue.
“Although your issue may appear to have the same symptoms as another member, often the cause and solution are different. Separate threads allow for continuity within the thread conversation and more personalized support.”
* Also, no necroposting, even if it's your own thread.
Thank you.
