If you lost your email, there's not a whole lot you can do. If you remember your password, you can sign in with the username (if you're the forum creator, the username is admin) and link it to a different global account. If you don't remember your password, I'm afraid you're just out of luck. The only way PB can verify identity is through the email you provided, so there'd be no way to prove your account ownership. If you had access to your old email, then you could click the "Forgot Password?" link on the sign-in page, but beyond that I'm afraid the account is not recoverable.

Are you able to reinstate the old email? Regretfully, no. But I made another profile & when I managed to keep my old PC going long enough, I logged in on it,.. made the new profile the admin & it seems to be working out ok.

Why didn't you just change your email address on your profile when you managed to sign in?

I didn't know I could change it in my profile. I'll try that,...thanks. I'm a bit scared of messing with it... Every time I try to change anything I really mess up.

Okay, I tried that. Here's what I'm getting PLUS the 'current password' space is blank
We were unable to locate the forum you are attempting to access. This may be due to an angry bear, or maybe you just typed the URL wrong.
eta: I didn't type in the url. I clicked on the one in my profile. It took me to the page to edit.

Unless the URL was wrong someplace that should be a one-off error, please try again and let us know if you run into any issues.

Okay, I tried that. Here's what I'm getting PLUS the 'current password' space is blank I apologize, I didn't realize ProBoards requires you to enter your password to change your email address (it's been a very long time since I've had to do so). You unfortunately need to know your account password for this as your browser won't supply it there. All hope isn't necessarily lost. Depending on your browser, it may be possible to retrieve your password from your browser. There are no guarantees as older browsers from the 32-bit age didn't always provide this ability, but it's worth checking all the same.
