speaks, bots are like guests so the same action that blocks guests from your forum will block bots as well. To block bots totally then the best solution I can offer is to enable the Guests Must Login feature (Admin > Settings > Forum Settings, Login & Registration tab).

This doesn't solve your problem, but might offer comfort. Most bots are search engine bots, and you may welcome their company when your forum appears in Google's search results. That's assuming that's a plus for you.
