Forum URL: bonnaroo.proboards.comTried searching for this answer/topic but couldn't find a thread. Is there a way to set up a member to "take over" control of the title and first post of a thread from another member? Basically - we have a lengthy thread with a lot of history and posts but the person who first started it is no longer active. So we want to allow another individual member the ability to update/edit the thread title and first post because over time new info and updates need to be made. Is there any method or process to make this happen? Or can only mods/admins do that stuff?

If you allow any of your moderators to edit posts, you can appoint one of them. You can also create a member group for the individual you want to designate and allow that group to edit posts. Do any of those options sound good? If you need help with any of them, let us know. Keep in mind that if this group can edit one stranger's posts, they can edit everyone's posts.

Yeah, I'm aware of the mods and group members with permissions. It was really about just allowing this one guy to edit one thread. Not that I wouldn't trust him to not abuse the power to do it in all threads in a specific section but I'll have to decide if we want to add powers to his profile.
Was just wondering if there was any other kind of workaround or trick to allowing it without needing to make the member a mod (or new group with powers). If there's anything that comes to mind or anyone knows let me know. Otherwise we'll just have mods/admins update it when requested or make the member a new user group.

I thought of something that's not exactly what you want, but it should work.
Say the post you want him to edit was created on 1-1-2021 at 1:00 AM. See if he made a post around the same time or earlier that he's willing to give up. You can edit it and use that post as the new head of the topic. It'll be easiest if it's a post that never got any replies. Then all you'll have to do is edit it and move over all the replies from the other topic. Does that make sense? Everything will remain in date order. So, the post you edit would need to have been created before the first reply in the topic you want to edit.

Just to elaborate a little on this: - the Admin or staff person would need to move that post and create a new thread with it. Even though the Admin or staff person is credited with the thread, the first post should be editable by the post's author.

We tried something similar to that but had him make a new post and then I moved the thread into that but, as expected, it didn't allow him to be the first post. I will have to look and see if he has any good posts from around the time before the original thread. Thanks for the idea!

No problem. Let me know how it goes. Best of luck with your forum.

It allowed us to have the member update/edit the original post but not the title. But that's good enough as we can update the title of the thread as needed for him. Thanks so much for your help.
