My forum is for an existing physical community. I would like to allow people to register only if they are on a list I provide. At the same time I would like to automatically supply values for some of the registration fields, like screen name and forum name. (I understand why some fields like the two check boxes must be managed by ProBoards software.)
Is there any method to do what I need?

My forum is for an existing physical community. I would like to allow people to register only if they are on a list I provide. The only way to do this is to use the Send Invite Key Email feature that is available when you disable registration for the forum. This allows only select users to register and have immediate access to the forum. Using this method there is no batch function. You need to send the invitation individually as a unique link is generated each time that allows the user to bypass the disabled registration. If you have a larger number of users to invite – as you stated in your earlier support thread – then this solution may not be the best option for you. The recommendation of sending out a batch email to those individuals and have your forum set to Restrict Registration so that each registration is in a pending mode for you to vet them (approve / reject / ban) would be the most efficient solution in making sure the registrants match your list. Each user that registers for your forum (or any account on our service) must complete the registration themselves. (There are laws both locally and internationally that pertain to user accounts.)If you would like to impose certain criteria when a user registers, then you can state this in your email to the invitees; and when reviewing their pending registration, if the criteria is not met, you can choose to reject the account. And of course follow up with that individual explaining why their account was rejected. (As an example, there are some game forums that require the member to use the same username as on the game server.) Now while you cannot supply values for usernames (or any of the registration fields), you do have access to change a member's display name after they have registered. Please let me know if you have any questions.
