Forum URL: wichargerguy.proboards.com/
In the past, I have used an alternate username to post links to technical information. It's sort of a tongue-in-cheek joke, as the username in question (TECH) was a character used in Chrysler factory film strips for dealer training.
I cannot recall my password for that username. To reset it, I have to access an email that hasn't been used in years, and I don't recall (and cannot reset) that password either. So the root cause is old age.
I thought I had a workaround:
Plan A) Checking the member roster, I could see TECH, but no Tech. I tried registering as Tech, but it tells me that name is already in use.
Plan B) As Admin, I deleted my old TECH profile. When I check the member list, it is indeed gone now. But again, when I try to register anew under that name (TECH), it says it is in use. That's happened both immediately after deleting the old username last night, and trying again today.
So now I'm sort of at a loss. Apparently while I have deleted it from the forum member list, it lives on somewhere. Can either variation on this name be made active on my forum somehow?

DynoDave - Usernames can be reused, so your action of deleting your old inaccessible account to create a new one, would the correct solution. The issue you are running in to is from Reserved Names. (Admin > Members > Reserved Names) Scroll to he end of the list, you have "Tech" listed as a reserved name that can not be used. Click the "x" to delete the entry, then register your new account. Once your new account is set, you can add "tech" back the Reserved list if you want.
