I think I'm a pretty cheap guy even when it's stuff I need. I even waste time at the grocery store when it comes down to saving pennies on a necessity. Forget about splurging on myself to get myself an electronic or something more enjoyable. But it's easier for me to give someone a gift than buy myself some milk and bread. I guess I just hate having expenses.

A couple of days ago I 'accidentally' spent £500 on a pair of books. I will also spend an uneccessary amount of time in a shop working out which products are cheapest by weight/volume in order to save 10p when buying something. You tell me 😅

Signed and numbered leatherbound editions of Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson. I already have numbered copies of all his other leatherbound editions, but when these two went on sale 18 months ago the website froze while I was paying - the people who ran it acknowledged that the problem was on their end, but by then it was too late. Finally saw a pair on eBay at a 'reasonable' price so I had to do it. Here's the rest of them, on my 'good' bookcase. Everything here is either a first edition, signed, numbered, written/drawn in by the author etc. There's a couple of ARCs (the paperbacks) and self-published editions before authors got picked up, too. The big exception is the hardback copy of Malice - it's a first ed, but ex-library, so effectively worthless! =[ (these are old pictures, but there won't be more than a couple of additions since they were taken)

pawl, that's quite the collection! Here's the rest - imgur.com/a/ffs2CNYThere have been a few additions since this was taken, mostly for the 'good' case. Somewhere I have a small bag of books that needs adding to it, too. In amongst that collection there's a couple of signed copies, some of Conn Iggulden's hardbacks are (second hand) first or second eds... Nothing that gets onto the good bookcase though! Oh, and that obviously makes no mention of my ebook collection! 😁

I love what you are doing here. A+, no notes. (Also grats on the new editions! I would do the same.) I was coming in here to say that I'm cheap except for when it comes to my computer, my phone, and my books. That's mostly true. When it comes to certain hobbies I'll spend money, like for an instrument or camera or equipment, but those tend to be one-time spends (or rare enough to justify the cost). I'm pretty cheap otherwise. My car is getting old, I don't often buy new clothes, new decorations, etc. For the most part I get by on what works; if there's not a practical reason to replace something, or if I don't really need something, I usually won't spend the money.

Holy Moses. I love what you are doing here. A+, no notes. (Also grats on the new editions! I would do the same.) It makes me sad that I don't have the money free to keep up with things anymore - the shelves have been mostly the same for a few years now. More than a few series here will never get a complete matching collection! =[ it's something to come back to one day though!

Once you finally are in a position where you can go back and fill in all the gaps it'll be absolutely worth it!

Absolutely...sometimes! I never spend beyond my means though. There are certain items I just have to have...but I will always check out FB marketplace and ebay first, to get the best deal/value for money. Love charity shops too.

I mean, I just dropped 600 USD downpayment on a phone for my wife and a cellular watch for myself. So…
Plus, a 2000 dollar MacBook Pro, 3000 dollar gaming desktop, an iPhone, iPad Pro. Etc etc most of it is for leisure. Rest is for work. lol.

This is a tough question for me, because I don't typically spend very much money, which can give the illusion that I have great self-restraint and/or am very financially responsible. However, the truth is that I just don't want very many things. If I see a snazzy new bit of technology or whatever, I have virtually no desire to go and buy it. Does it count as being budget-savvy if you decline to buy frivolous things not because you wish to save money, but because you genuinely have no interest in actually acquiring those things? Ah, the mysteries of the universe.
