Ridgecrest, Ca., huh? I had to look that up. Ever visit the Barker Ranch? Ever hear the true story of the "Death Valley Germans"?

I have not heard of either of those. Well, if you're living on the China Lake Naval base you're probably not a local and/or too young. What remains of the Barker Ranch is some distance to your northeast, about 35 miles, and is where the Charles Manson group was holed up after the Tate/LaBianca murders and where they were arrested. This was back in 1969. I think the delapidated old ranch buildings were finally torn down a few years ago, so all that's left there are the foundations.
There was a fire, a few years ago, which burned down the main building, which was already very delapidated. The incident of the "Death Valley Germans" was an unfortunate thing that happened in 1996. My link gives an extensive, detailed, and interesting story. This took place just a little further northeast of the Barker Ranch. The China Lake Naval base plays a role in that story.

A few rain showers were predicted but still too warm for me.

After having the AC running nonstop since Monday, this morning I woke up and was actually shivering. The temps went from 80 low / 95 high to 65 low and 90 high.

I have not heard of either of those. Well, if you're living on the China Lake Naval base you're probably not a local and/or too young. Haha, I'll be 60 next month. We don't live on Base, but in the town of Ridgecrest since 2011. I grew up in Las Vegas, but my grandparents lived in Trona so we visited often. What remains of the Barker Ranch is some distance to your northeast, about 35 miles, and is where the Charles Manson group was holed up after the Tate/LaBianca murders and where they were arrested. This was back in 1969. Oh! That place. Yeah, I'm familiar with it, I just didn't remember the name of the ranch. There are always tourists staying in town who talk about the Mansons. There's still morbid interest, I guess. A more interesting place is Robber's Roost just outside of town. Robbers Roost

I have said it many a time in here before I hate the heat and summer, give me ice and snow any day, me having asthma and COPD anything over 20/25 then I suffer, lucky enough it's overcast outside with wee rain showers here and there, and that is stopping people from gardening which would trigger my hayfever off, so I can open some windows. View AttachmentYou're lucky, all the way UK south down here and in an area too flat for decent snow fall. So much so it's rare, ice yes, snow - hardly ever. I'm actually enjoying the brighter weather from the moody "constantly changing from one to another" the last 4 months or so. I take back what I said, the day is fine but it has been unbearable at night here in the UK. Especially as I live in a top floor apartment. The living room is the only cool room as it's the only one with a side window, so even with the curtains drawn I get a nice cross wind to keep it cool. As a result I've been sleeping on the sofa latetly. I spent one night in my actual bed, the second day; with a fan blowing cold air at me all night. Almost made it two but it's not an economy fan so does draw the electric, so thought better of it for a second night. Hence now sleeping on the sofa.

It's actually been a relatively cool summer here in Michigan, so far. It was much hotter last summer. Next winter is something I can definitely wait for.

Not bad today, a nice cool breeze blowing in our flat widow, no need to turn the fans on.

It's been lovely and cool for the last few days and I am thankful for that and the next few days should be the same.

I just got back from a week's vacation in another, cooler state. Apparently I missed a 100-degree day this past weekend. 😰
