Forum URL: thestampforum.boards.net/After more than a decade of being a Moderator and subsequently the Admin, I just experienced a member deleting several threads that she had created but that others had added to with informative content. I can understand being able to delete your own posts but it seems there is something fundamentally wrong with being able to delete the posts of others in the process. How can I prevent members from being able to delete a thread that they created after other members have posted on it?

How can I prevent members from being able to delete a thread that they created after other members have posted on it? The only 100% surefire way to prevent this is to lock a thread. Of course, that will prevent any further use from those without the moderator ability to post in locked threads. You can use the disable edit/delete after a certain period of time plugin (linked below), but note that by PB developer guidelines this must have a window of opportunity for deletion before the plugin can take effect in any given post, and also all plugins can be bypassed by either disabling javascript in the browser OR by using mobile version to access the forum. www.proboards.com/library/plugins/item/318

tomiseksj - Just want to mention that a member cannot delete a thread unless they have been given that power (member group) - nor can they delete the posts of other members. Members can only delete their own posts. One action to take in this particular case is to remove the member in question from the group they belong to. Another would be to modify the group's powers removing the deletion option (my recommendation). Please read through our Help Guide article on Preventing Forum Content Deletion.

Scott , I've checked the group powers for her group (Member) and the deletion option was set to "no" so the two threads she deleted must have only contained her posts. I guess that Kami 's recommendation regarding the plugin to disable editing is the approach I need to take going forward. Thanks to both of you for the assistance.

This may or may not be the perfect solution for you. It depends on your needs. There's also the Deletion Backup plugin, which would send deleted posts to the thread of your choosing. You could have a "Deleted Post Archive Thread" or something. support.proboards.com/post/7230847
