Wow, well since I decided to write out everything in the question, I really have nothing to explain down here...
And what version of Photoshop is best for making images?

There's no contest in terms of image quality, Photoshop is unmatchable. The main advantage Gimp has is that it's free.

Like Renegade said GIMP is the best for free ness, but photoshop is absolutely great. I use photoshop and I love it. I haven't tried using GIMP yet but my friend who uses it says it takes up alot of space. Why don't you try a free trial of photoshop then try GIMP and if you can afford to pay for photoshop if you like it then get it.

GIMP for me. I've used both and I have to say that I find them pretty similar for what I use them for (making moving gifs). However GIMP is free and I think I's better on computer resources.

I use paint.NET v.3.0 I'ts not as good as GIMP and photoshop, but it gets the job done. But, given a choice of only gimp and photoshop, I'd say gimp. I've never actually seen photoshop, I only know that it can get kind of pricy. I think for a pro version they wanted 500 dollars.

Well I wouldn't buy Photoshop, what's the piont when The Gimp is nearly as good anyway. I never pay for anything on the internet anyway...

Photoshop all the way. It's the most powerful piece of software around, and is easier to use IMO. Gimp may be free, but it's hard to use, and it doesn't really pose a serious threat to Photoshop, although it's quite good.

I think Photoshop, even though I use GIMP. PS seems like it's easier to work around (I've downloaded a trial before), with GIMP being a little more convoluted at times. Plus, PS is the industry standard, and most graphic design people don't even pay attention to you if you've never used PS.

Well...I don't know anything about Photoshop so I couldn't compare the two. As I am aware though, Photoshop is supposed to be better.

I've used both. Of course, Photoshop is a generally better program with more bells and whistles but GIMP can still be pretty good. I use GIMP because I don't have the money for PS but if I could get PS, I would. Gonna' go with PS on this even though GIMP isn't that much worse.
