I used to do some XC on my Proflex 856 but got hit by the freeride and downhill bug and am going too fast to look back
Whats the dream bike for an XC'er these days. Giant's Anthem seems to be a hit this year. I've seen a lot of peeps @ MTBR's forum getting one with the usual weight weenie set ups. carbon,Ti and some other stuff i cant afford Am a HT fan since i cant reallly afford a decent FS XC frame ;D ;D currently ridin a Giant XTC team, Reba SL up front and SRAM stuff. have an old FS Marin coming soon to be built up as a secondary bike. just coz i got it cheap.

The Anthem dont look too bad, athough I'm not a fan of the rear sus setup. Am a URT fan.
Giant XTC team looks like it could be a good little dirt/jump bike and then take you on long XC rides. Was considering switching to SRAM this spring on my Bighit (only rear shifting)...how good is it to use? I'm well out of the loop on RockShox forks as the last one I bought was a 97 Judy XC...Still a good fork though and a google on the Reba shows me they are still making good forks.
Best XC apart from the proflex I've owned was a Trek 8000SHX. Real light and reponsive...Bent the non replaceable rear hanger though and it went back to Wisconsin Trek then offered me a 8500 as replacement which I accepted and swapped for the Proflex 856. My first step into FS.

yeah, they say the Anthem is a glorified version of the DW link design. everybody here wants to have one and most XC riders already got one so i kinda lost interest. If ever i pull up some resources i'd like to try the Haro VL120. its a very promising design and the folks at Haro are super helpful. not sure about using the XTC for jumping and stuff since its a very light designed frame and might not take the abuse too much. SRAM is the best so far. am using the X7 group for more than a year and it has been good. hope i get a good deal on an X9 group. the SRAM folks are the best as well when it comes to customer care. Almost a complete SRAM powered bike except for the pedals. The Reba is the best upgrade i ever had.set at 85mm.its a very versatile fork. i dont hit it much on the DH since my crash a year++ ago. became too afraid to crash again.
