Forum URL: kentuckywildcat.proboards.proboards44.comI have a member who when he registered accidentally logged the year as , or put the wrong year on his profile. He's got 1972, which is showing him to be 35. He is actually 29 , so it should say 1978. So basically,he just accidentally hit the 2 instead of the 8 in the years of his age when he registered, and just now noticed it. Anyway, they ask me,(his father in law is an Admin with my site) to correct it, as they said they had tried, and was unable to figure out how. Well, I went into his profile to fix it,thinking it was going to be easy, but to my surprise, I couldn't find anywhere to actually change the birth year for him either. Have I missed something ? Is their a way to correct this for that member to the right year ? Thanks in advance for any help.

At this time, only main admins can have their birthdate changed; and that's by coming here and asking for it to be done. For others, the only way to change it is by re-registering.

Only I, (Main Admin/Owner) can change MY birthday if I wish to, but notanother members, even at their request...and they cannot come here to request it either, as they are not the MAIN Admin, but a member. So,in other words, they can't get it changed then...LOL ;D And thanks in advance for your help.

I had the same question and came across this. I was able to remove their account. Have them re-register using the same name and this allowed all of their posts to be reattached to them.
I then used a code to change their new joined date to show their original joined date.
They did lose all of their currently saved PM's. So it is possible to correct this, but it takes a little effort. Just write down all the info you can. Like their Karma count, post count, avatar used etc.. so you can fix it back up for them and warn them that they will lose their PM's.
Perhaps proboards could look into making this option available in the future???

Being able to change a members birth date without having to remove them and have them re-register.
I have had several members input their birthday wrong when they joined up. Some by accident and others because they were not comfortable giving out their info for what ever reason. Only to later after they became comfortable on my site and made friends, did they want to have their birthday corrected to the right date, so that others where not wishing them a happy birthday on the wrong day.
It would be a nice option to be able to do this for them without it being a big ordeal. I do not know why this feature is not available. I am sure there is a reason. But it would be nice if we could.

The reason is so that it can't be abused. You have to ask yourself - why do you need the ability to change something which never changes?

That is true. If only they would get it right in the beginning when they join.

I was just thinking and my curiosity finally got the best of me that I had to ask. How can it be abused for admin to be able to change a members birth date on request? And if it can. What if they could request it through a higher power like requesting for a forgotten password. If there was an option for a member to request the date to be corrected through an outside source and it could only be done one time. Figuring that they would not get it wrong twice. Then there would not be any way for it to be abused (however it is that it can be abused? still curious )

But i'm not against giving the main admin the power to change birthdays, as well as the registration date. However, that's something for the future.

Sounds good.
My site is by invitation only now. So I alway make new members aware that it is not an easy task to change ones birthday after their accounts have been created when I am collecting the info needed to create their accounts for them.
And like I have stated in the above posts. We have figured out a way to change the date if they really want it correct and have no problem losing whatever PM's they have saved.
Only if they would just get it right from the start. Many of my members that had intentionally put a wrong date when they joined were concerned about providing personal info. That is why they picked a bogus birthdate. The members on my site make a big event on other members birthdays, so once they had bonded there with the other members, then they want it corrected.
I am sure that it is normally not a big issue whether they input the correct date or not, but the way that my members have bonded. It has become a issue to them.
I will continue to change it for those that really want it done and hope that in the future a way will be found to make it more easily done and still be able to prevent it from being abused.
Thanks for your responses, Jerry
