Forum URL: minecolony.proboards.comI had someone post as a guest saying that they were having problems registering for my forum. They said when they filled out all the information and clicked "Register" nothing happened. I decided to check and see if I could reproduce this, and got a different problem. Using Win7, IE8 I tried to register a test account. I stayed logged in on Firefox so I could be sure to use names that were not used. Regardless of what name I used, I got the "The username you entered has already been taken. Please select a new username." error.

Hi,
Do you know what browser that person was using?
When you attempted to register, did you fill out all of the fields, or leave some blank? Was the username you entered all one word, and all in lowercase?

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Work sucks.
I don't know what browser they were using.
I filled out all fields, and all usernames were all one word. I used several that had uppercase letters, and several that were all lowercase letters.

Did you enter a valid email address. Sometimes entering an invalid one will prompt that error.

I entered a disposable e-mail address, because I intended to delete the account within a day or so. Does ProBoards have a blacklist for e-mail providers?

There are a few emails blocked from registering, yes. Try with a valid email address and see if the registration completes

Bah. I forgot to check this thread for too long. I was reminded because another user is having a problem creating an account. The thread on my forum is here. I'm going to see if I can create a new account using a non-disposable e-mail address. Edit: Using a Yahoo e-mail address worked for me. I'm trying to figure out why it might not have worked for my user.

He says that the account was created [he got the registration email] so the email isn't, or shouldn't be the issue there.
Could you ask her what username she used, and when attempting to login, what is the exact error message it gives her.

I asked them for the exact error message, but from what they typed beforehand, they aren't getting an error message. They're getting the e-mail and clicking on the activation link, and being brought straight to a login page. When trying to login, the're told that the account does not exist. The username they're trying to use is firedingo which is not one of my reserved names, and isn't in the memberlist at all.

I was able to create a new account on the forum just fine, and was able to activate the account without an issue. So it would seem there's something that isn't being told at the moment that's causing the problem, almost as if they're registering at a different forum, because the registration system is working fine on your forum and there have been no other reports from other forums about this issue. Have them revisit your forum and register a new account. Once they are registered, have them immediately visit the index page of the forum and check the "Newest Member:" area in the info center at the bottom of the main page. Their username should be displayed there if the account was created successfully and would be the best way to actually confirm the account was created on your forum. If it is displayed there, then they should be able to go through the activation process fine. If their username is not displayed in the info center after they create a new account, ask them which web browser (along with version number if possible) they're using to create the account
